University of California System is Hiring an Executive Director of the Rothman Family Institute for Food Studies Near Los Angeles, CA

Position Summary

Under the purview of the Dean of the Division of Undergraduate Education, the Executive Director reports to the Assistant Dean of Undergraduate Education Initiatives (UEI) and leads the UCLA Rothman Family Institute for Food Studies (RFI) in close collaboration with the Institute's faculty leaders and advisory committees comprised of a broad range of stakeholders. The Executive Director performs outreach and engages with UCLA faculty, campus partners, students, and the greater Los Angeles community and beyond to develop an innovative model for problem-solving today's big food-related challenges. The incumbent provides strategic and intellectual leadership to spearhead efforts to increase resources for the Institute through philanthropic endeavors, donor cultivation, and grant writing. The incumbent elevates the stature of the Institute through their strategic communication and outreach work, which may include regular speaking engagements on campus and in the community. The Executive Director is expected to work closely with committed faculty and the Faculty Director on realizing the vision for the Institute through developing and implementing academic, community-based, and global initiatives.Qualifications include a post-secondary degree, some knowledge and expertise in the topic of food and/or transferable experience in a related area; as well as: demonstrated evidence of strategic thinking and leadership, strong oral and written communication skills, an ability to forge collaborative relationships, a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, a record of effective philanthropic engagement, and experience in strategic communication, preferably within a university context. Strong leadership, communication, and inter-personal skills to extend the global reach of the Institute, and the ability to bring together faculty, graduate student instructors, other academic personnel, and staff in collaborative projects.The Executive Director's responsibilities fall in four broad areas: (1) strategic leadership across campus and beyond, (2) Food Studies academic programming, (3) fundraising and grant writing, and (4) administration and operations. Salary & Compensation

Qualifications

Excellent organizational, multitasking skills and problem-solving skills to facilitate and coordinate planning efforts from idea conception through implementation. (Required)Skill in communicating (verbally, electronically, written form) to convey accurate and timely information to individuals at various organizational levels; ability to effectively represent the needs/views of RFI to campus administration, other university administrators, the public, efficiently, with (Required)Excellent interpersonal skills with strong ability to establish, foster and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders from various social, cultural and educational backgrounds. (Required)Demonstrated skill in maintaining confidentiality and with a high-level of personal integrity, discretion, diplomacy, honesty, and professional maturity. (Required)Demonstrated experience in planning and producing events. (Required)Supervisory skills to train, mentor, and guide the work of others and delegate when appropriate. (Required)Knowledge of or ability to quickly learn and navigate University and unit policies and procedures. (Required)Skill in working as part of a team, utilizing networks effectively, handling sensitive situations, and collaborating with a variety of individuals on a variety of levels. Foster collaboration with diverse groups of participants, including students, faculty, staff, and/or other stakeholders. (Required)Skill in public speaking effectively and clearly conveying information on a one-on-one basis and in large group settings for a variety of audiences. (Required)
