The Detroit Institute of Arts is Hiring an Audio Visual Technician Near Detroit, MI

JOB TITLE: Audio Visual Technician

DEPARTMENT: Public Programming

REPORTS TO:Director, Visual Media

CLASSIFICATION: Full-Time, Non-Exempt

REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY:Project-Based

GENERAL SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Director, Visual Media, the Audio Visual Technician will ensure DIA visitors find personal meaning in art by providing high quality audio-visual services that support the museum’s artistic programs, community engagement, and business-related events. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Support live sound and stage production for music, including sound engineering, and working backstage for films.
  • Setup and operate equipment safely in order to enhance live events and programs. 
  • Provide technical production support to museum departments, artists, visiting lecturers, and organizations, using Public Address (PA) systems, computers, microphones, video recorders, projectors, Light-Emitting Diode (LED) and theatrical lighting and sound mixing equipment. 
  • Provide technical support for internal events, including the Board of Directors meetings, all-staff meetings, Employee of the Quarter, and panel discussions. 
  • Attend all relevant logistical internal planning meetings.
  • Communicate all relevant technical details for internal and external events with staff and external partners.
  • Edit videos anddocumentevents with video and/or sound recordings.
  • Perform equipment maintenance.
  • Apply DIA values to interactions to support a culture of belonging among internal and external stakeholders.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE 

High school diploma or GED required. Three (3) years of audio-visual experience, including specialized training in audio reinforcement and video production, includingone (1) year of professional event set-up required

  • Demonstrated collaboration skills to work across departments and divisions internally and with diverse stakeholders externally.
  • Demonstrated skills to prioritize and complete multiple tasks to meet deadlines and goals. 
  • Ability to share clear, effective, and professional information through talking or writing. 
  • Demonstrated ability to provide strong customer service.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with attention to detail and produce accurate results. 
  • Ability to work regular weekend, evening, and holiday hours.
  • Must be proficient in the latest version of Microsoft Office 365.
  • Must have proficiency in the use of remote work technology such as scheduling with, connecting to, and using digital collaboration platforms such as Microsoft Teams. 
  • Must be able to establish and maintain professional, productive, and courteous interactions that promote positive teamwork. This encompasses going beyond giving and receiving instructions and includes but is not limited to (a) performing work activities requiring interacting or speaking with others; and (b) responding appropriately to constructive feedback or suggestions for improvement from a supervisor.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This position requires frequent heavy work, and the ability to independently lift and carry a variety of materials, tools, and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs., as well as the ability to manage heavier items with team assistance. The position requires high visual acuity in order to ensure the safe use of tools and equipment. Working indoors and outdoors may require exposure to seasonal temperature extremes. Some irregular work hours and occasional domestic travel may also be necessary.While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate and exchange accurate information using various methods including in-person, telephone, and email.
