ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Operations Management: Provides direction and guidance for assigned areas of responsibility. Participates in developing and implementing goals and objectives that are in concert with the corporate mission and goals. Integrates the department/service into the primary functions of the organization and achieves, or exceeds, customer satisfaction goals. Establishes and maintains effective communication and collaboration with other hospital departments and medical staff to resolve problems, establish and implement policies, and coordinate activities within assigned department. Evaluate for department equipment needs. Participates in strategic planning as it relates to the patient care division, the hospital as a whole, and the health service. Coordinates and integrates interdepartmental and intradepartmental services. Evaluate the Laboratory’s performance against established standards and coordinates action plans as needed. Provides treatment and services in accordance with licensure requirement laws and rules and regulation
Financial Responsibilities: Helps with planning and coordinating yearly capital and operational budgets. Anticipates long-range capital needs. Evaluate for department equipment needs. Effectively and efficiently uses manpower, material, and financial resources in accordance with hospital policies.
Quality Management: Investigates all incidents and accidents; reports findings and takes appropriate action. Departmental compliance with accreditation and regulatory agencies. Respond to and comply with reports and recommendations from external authorized agencies, such as accreditation, certification or regulatory bodies. Evaluates the effectiveness of data collection. Evaluates the effectiveness of processes for the management of change and performance improvement. Achieves improved patient care outcomes/processes by continuously assessing and improving their department’s performance through organized process improvement efforts. Assures quality control programs are carried out as appropriate. Responsible to meet all CLIA, COLA, and CAP standards.
Leadership Responsibilities. Oversees the implementation of orientation and continuing education programs for laboratory staff. Assures that these programs are evaluated for effectiveness and meet documented staff needs. Determines the competence and qualifications of staff. Provides ongoing feedback to staff regarding work performance and addresses issues utilizing appropriate policy and procedures.
Administrative special projects when required.
EDUCATION
Bachelors of Science in medical technology, chemistry, physical or biological sciences is required; and/or meets CLIA 88’ requirements for general supervisor with a minimum of 5 years’ experience.
EXPERIENCE
A minimum of 3 years leadership experience in high complexity testing environment. Preferred 7 year(s) leadership experience in high complexity testing environment. Hospital experience is preferred.
REQUIREMENTS
A qualified candidate will be board-certified as a Medical Technologist (MT), Medical Lab Scientist (MLS) or Clinical Lab Scientist (CLS) through ASCP, AMT, AAB, HEW or equivalent.
