JOB SUMMARY: Using equipment such as, but not limited to, vacuums, mops, pails, cleaning chemicals, ladders and lifts, Custodians are responsible for the maintaining the cleanliness of all areas used by the campus community.

DUTIES:

  • Sweeps, mops and scrubs floors, stairs and other surfaces
  • Vacuums and spot cleans carpets
  • Cleans, services and restocks lavatories.
  • Collects trash and debris and places in designated collection area for removal by sanitation trucks. Removes common area recyclables to designated collection area.
  • Replaces liners in wastebaskets and trash containers.
  • Cleans stoves, microwaves, and refrigerators.
  • Cleans or dusts glass and other exposed surfaces including walls, window sills, bases, door trim, chalkboards, whiteboards, furniture, etc.
  • Sweeps porches, steps and sidewalks to clear debris.
  • Replaces light bulbs/fluorescent lamps, consistent with training and experience.
  • Using shovel or broom removes snowfall and applies ice melt, as directed in the "Snow and Ice Control Plan for The College of Saint Rose".
  • Monitors par level supply inventory (including ice melt) and initiates orders for additional supplies in assigned buildings.
  • Reports all hazardous conditions to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Attends all training regarding the proper use and handling of chemicals and must follow defined procedures.
  • Maintains equipment in clean and usable condition. Notifies supervisor of equipment in need of repair.
  • Monitors assigned work spaces and report any maintenance issues to management; such as, but not limited to, clogged toilets, leaking faucets, light bulbs/fixtures needing replacement, etc.
  • Uses cleaning chemicals in a responsible manner
  • Ensures chemicals are safely and properly stored after each use and that correct labels are applied.
  • Moves furniture, supplies and miscellaneous equipment.
  • Maintains floor finishes by burnishing and buffing up to 4 hours per shift
  • In emergency situations, will be assigned to clean up floods and other related items.
  • Follows established college policies and procedures, including periodic inspection protocol.
  • Other responsibilities related to custodial work as assigned by the supervisor
Job Requirements:
  • At least six months experience in housekeeping/janitorial services, preferably in a commercial setting.
  • Must be able to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Must be able to bend, push and frequently lift or carry objects up to 20 lbs.
  • Must be able to climb stairs, ladders, lifts, etc as well as stand, reach, stoop, crouch, sit, kneel, climb, crawl and walk extensively across multiple areas of campus.
  • Must be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide
  • Must be able to read labels on cleaning chemical containers, instructions and safety rules, write sentences, and communicate verbally.

Work Hours: 1st shift: 7:00-3:30 TWO positions open

Employees in this position are considered "essential personnel", which requires them to report for duty during weather/other emergencies that may result in College closings or delays. Regular work assignments change to performing snow removal duties such as shoveling, snowblowing, etc.
