Nutrition Services DirectorReports to: Chief Executive OfficerFLSA Classification: Full time, ExemptWe’re looking for a motivated Dietary Director to bring excellent talent and abilities to ourDietary department here at our Medical Center. The Dietary Director works directly withthe department staff and assists with the everyday operation of the department. They developdepartment goals and objectives, and select, train, orient, schedule, and educate the Dietarystaff to meet those goals and objectives. The director develops menus appropriate for patientnutritional needs, both in Acute Care and Long-Term Care. The Nutrition Services department isa critical piece of patient care. They provide the love and comfort residents, patients, andvisitors deserve when coming to our facility.Essential FunctionsPlan, organize, direct, coordinate, and supervise the functions and activities of theDietary department.Perform tasks as needed and contribute to the overall success of the department.Develop, recommend, and manage a department operating budget, acting with fiscalresponsibility and with the facility’s best interests in mind.Ensure that patient rights are maintained by all department personnel.Maintain an impactful safety program for the department and ensure that a safeworking environment is always provided for kitchen staff.Maintains current records that reflect department expenditures including food costs,and inventory and assures that a stock level of staple & non-staple foods and suppliesare maintained.Interacts with patients, families, physicians, and other departments constantly, andensures that patient needs are being met with high quality care.Act to maintain freshness of product.Actively act to reduce food waste.Determine department staffing needs, recruiting and training as needed, completeemployee performance evaluations, and make recommendations to Human Resourcesconcerning wage and staffing adjustments.Maintain patient confidentiality and involve both the patient and family in objective andgoal planning. Reference dietary history and review complaints & grievances; makenecessary reports as required.Conduct routine audits of the department to ensure compliance with local and stateregulations.Provide nourishment supplies to areas of the hospital as required.Maintain and manage a food safety and HACCP program to ensure safe food handlingwhile meeting all local and state regulations.Attend and service care plan meetings for patients and residents. Interact andcommunicate with nurses and physicians to ensure patient and resident needs are met.Create, implement, and manage regular training for staff, patients, and communitymembers on various topics including health and nutritional information.Schedule team members in such a way to ensure staffing and production needs areconsistently met for the department.Education and ExperienceBe at least 21 years of age.Culinary, hospitality, or foodservice management degree preferred.Be a Certified Dietary Manager, or Certified Food Service Manager, or possess similarnational certification for food service management and safety from a national certifyingbody or be able to obtain within one (1) year of transfer or hire required.At least two years’ of experience in a supervisory capacity in a medical facility preferred.Knowledge of foodservice operations required.Knowledge of therapeutic diets and textures, as well as the nutritional values of fooditems required.Knowledge of cooking and baking required. Ability to cook and produce recipespreferred.Skills and ExpectationsKind and professional demeanor.Professional and well-groomed appearance, at all times.Communicate positively and effectively, both written and verbally, with patients, family,and staff.Demonstrate effective organizational skills in an evolving environment.Work with honesty, compassion and integrity at all times.Adhere to ALL confidentiality procedures and policies.Demonstrate a commitment to building and sustaining a diverse, inclusive, andequitable working environment.Able to function independently, have personal integrity, flexibility, and the ability towork effectively with support personnel and agencies.Treat others in a fair and caring manner and help create an environment of teamworkthat promotes our goal of being a high quality patient care facility.Possess exceptional management skills to effectively run and manage the NutritionServices Department in a high volume foodservice setting while meeting local and stateregulations as well as patient diet needs.Be able to communicate effectively in a verbal and written manner with subordinates,co-workers, customers, and patients.Great organizational and multitasking skills.Leadership and team working abilities to ensure a successful operation of food andnutrition services for the hospital.Ability to objectively coach, counsel, and evaluate staff routinely.Physical RequirementsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by anemployee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
