The City of Hartford is Hiring a Marketing and Special Events Manager Near Hartford, CT

Description

Vacancy is in the Economic Development Division of the Development Services Department. Under general direction, plans, coordinates, and implements special events program for the City. Manages marketing initiatives designed to support the mission of the department by encouraging collaboration between city departments, community organizations, citizens, and business owners. Develops and maintains functions related to special events and special events programing. Develops and supports marketing initiatives that promote economic development within the City. Works in collaboration with internal/external team members to maintain City website with the upmost updated information related to special events. Manages advertisements for a variety of events. Prepares presentations, artwork, and other communications as appropriate to support the efforts of the Economic Development team. Participates in the development of the budget for special events. May present reports and outcomes of events to City Council and City leaders. May direct employees and volunteers as appropriate at events. Learns new software applications as needed. Performs related work as required.
Distinguishing Characteristics
This position is in the unclassified service and incumbent is appointed and serves at the pleasure of the Director of Development Services or the Director's designee.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Current software systems.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Windows.
  • Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
  • Graphic design.
  • Marketing concepts, terminology, and strategies.
Skill in:
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship building.
  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking.
Ability to:
  • Operate Windows-based computers and applications.
  • Develop and maintain databases.
  • Create web interfaces as needed.
  • Convert videos from different formats to Windows Media Video.
  • Establish and maintain highly effective working relationships with media representatives, elected officials, City managers, service providers, and the general public.
  • Prepare clear, concise and comprehensive reports, studies and other written materials.
  • Initiate, organize, and set priorities in a team environment.
  • Interact with a diverse population.
  • Problem solve.
  • Manage priorities, juggle multiple projects, and meet deadlines.
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing.

Qualifications

Open to all applicants who meet the following qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university AND three (3) years of experience in print or electronic media, public relations, marketing, digital marketing, communications or closely related communication field.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed primarily in an office environment with some travel to different sites. Incumbent may be required to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.
