About our opportunity:
The City of Asheville is seeking an experienced Building Safety professional to join the Development Services team as an Electrical Inspector. Code Enforcement Officials are responsible for enforcing codes and regulations for commercial and residential construction projects. Duties include conducting inspections to ascertain compliance with codes, inspecting blueprints and schematics, communicating with owners, contractors, and design professionals concerning code issues, interacting with the public to answer questions, completing online reports of inspections, investigating reports of non-compliance, and performing appraisals of damages resulting from natural disasters.
The City of Asheville’s Development Services Department is composed of a team of dedicated professionals who stay committed to the City Council’s goals. The Inspections division completes over 36,000 inspections per year. Our approach focuses on compliance, rather than enforcement, in an effort to remain effective, efficient, consistent, responsive and a solution oriented organization. The ideal candidate for this position will have knowledge and experience with North Carolina codes, excellent written and oral communication skills, computer skills and excellent interpersonal skills.

HIRING RANGE
$22.18 – $25.68 per hour Depending on qualifications and experience.
HOURLY RANGE FOR EMPLOYEES
Code Enforcement Officer I - $22.18-$33.27
Code Enforcement Officer II - $23.30-$34.94
Code Enforcement Officer III - $24.46-$36.69
Code Enforcement Officer IV - $25.68-$38.52
** The City of Asheville’s dynamic career progression plan for inspectors provides 2% increases for each standard certificate achieved. An applicant with current standard certificates will have an adjustment to the starting salary based on number of certificates.
