About the Role

COE is seeking a Data Systems Architect for the design and development of a Common Data Architecture (CDA) to be flexible and scalable, allowing for easy adaptation to change over time. The new system will need to meet evolving business needs and the ability to handle large volumes of data addressing data of our nation’s railways. This position will be mostly remote with occasional travel, as required, to our federal client within the Washington, DC/Baltimore Metropolitan area.

Responsibilities

This role will include, but not limited to the following:

  • Provide design and a framework for efficiently managing data from collection to distribution and consumption, ensuring that data is organized, accessible, and usable. This will include engaging the agency’s existing system tools across multiple disparate data sets.
  • Create flexibility and scalability of the CDA to enable the agency to efficiently store, process, and analyze data, supporting various GX applications such as reporting, analytics, and artificial intelligence.
  • Include at least three types of data models, conceptual, logical, and physical in the CDA.
  • Create a CDA framework that shall also include processes and best practices to enable alignment of future data applications developed by the agency.
  • The CDA shall be adaptable to shifting needs and priorities and scalable to support diverse needs and data for specific areas.
  • Develop user-centered tools and features to enhance data visualization and information processing.
  • Establish the foundations of a Knowledge Management Site (KMS) that will make it simple to maintain and retrieve critical data and insights to support the agency’s vision of the CDA.
Experience and Skills:
  • Must have prior experience working on Federal projects. Candidates without Federal experience will not be considered.
  • A minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited university with five to 10 years of related systems architecture experience.
  • Advanced industry certifications are highly desirable.
  • Experience with a wide variety of technologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement and document technology integration and migration strategies.
  • Familiar with and on top of the industry trend and new technologies for system architecture.
  • Strong attention to detail is required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to perform with little direction and achieve quality results independently and within a team.
  • Strong customer care focus.
  • Ability to work under pressure, time, and other constraints.
  • Successfully presents technical information in layman’s terms while being clear and concise.
  • Works well as part of a team.
  • The ability to multi-task, prioritize commitments, and manage time effectively.
  • History of ethical performance.
  • U.S. citizenship is required and ability to or already possesses a national security clearance.
  • Willing to work in a hybrid environment as described above.
