Job Summary:
The Sommelier is responsible for providing exceptional customer service by welcoming guests with enthusiasm, guiding them through wine selections, and offering personalized food and wine pairings to elevate their dining experience. This role involves ensuring adherence to wine service and food safety standards, engaging with guests to understand their preferences, serving as a wine expert and educator for the team, managing wine inventory, creating wine lists, and controlling expenses related to wine.
Qualifications:

• Proven experience as a Sommelier or similar role in a high-end dining establishment
• In-depth knowledge of different types of wines, vineyards, and wine production
• Strong understanding of wine and food pairings to enhance the dining experience
• Excellent customer service and communication skills
• Ability to work collaboratively with a team and train staff on wine selections and service standards
• Certification in wine studies or related field is a plus

Responsibilities:

• Greet guests warmly and assist them in selecting wines that complement their preferences and meals
• Provide tailored food and wine pairings to enhance guests' dining experiences
• Ensure proper wine service according to The Breakers standards and maintain food safety protocols
• Engage with guests to understand their wine preferences and make informed recommendations
• Educate and train team members on wine selections, service techniques, and standards
• Manage wine inventory, purchase wines, write wine lists, and monitor expenses related to wine procurement
• Stay updated on industry trends, new wine releases, and changes in the wine market
• Collaborate with the culinary team to create wine pairing menus for special events or promotions
• Uphold a professional and polished appearance while representing The Breakers Palm Beach as a wine expert
