POSITION TITLE:  University Aide - Gardener Assistants
COMPENSATION RANGE: 17.00 - 17.00 USD per hour
EMPLOYMENT CLASSIFICATION: Temporary

Department Job Title: 2024 University Aide Seasonal Campus Gardener Assistant 
Duration: up to 6 months 
SALARY:
$17.00/Hr 40 Hours 5 positions available 
Hours of Operation: 
Summer hours 6:00am to 2:30pm (May – August) 
Fall hours: Monday -Friday, 7:00am to 3:30pm (August 31-December) 

Job Duties:
Works under direction of full-time landscape technician. 
Operates equipment such as skid steer, mowers and utility carts necessary to perform work related to maintenance of university grounds and landscaping.
Performs work associated with the application of pesticide/herbicide/fertilizer under the direction of certified chemical applicator.
Assist in the maintenance of irrigation system, including troubleshooting, excavation, lateral and head repair. 
Performs turf maintenance activities utilizing walk behind and riding mowers, string trimmers, edger’s, aeration equipment and others associated with regular maintenance.
Occasional installation of new landscape materials including planting of grass, shrubs, and trees.
Attend to typical outdoor related maintenance such as storm drain cleaning, power washing, gutter cleaning, and other duties as assigned. 

Minimum Qualifications:
Performs proper pruning of shrubs, grasses, trees, and other plants utilizing pruners, pole saws, and chainsaws. Work will include regular hand weeding, mulching and shrub bed maintenance. 
Prepares grounds for special events, including tent installation, trash bin setup, staging, and bleacher setup.
Preferred Abilities, Skills or Talents 
Work collaboratively in a team-based environment that focuses on skill sharing, cooperation and participation in the maintenance of a diverse, sustainable and healthy landscape for students, faculty and staff of the University of Northern Colorado. 
Experience in landscape maintenance, turf management, arboricultural practices, irrigation maintenance are preferred.
