Position Summary:

The Assistant Director Marketing Communicationssupports the strategic marketing and communications activities of the Office ofthe Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Services (OVPSAES)including internal and external communications to drive an increased awarenessof the Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Services (SAES) at theUniversity of Northern Colorado among students, families, alumni, campuscolleagues, and other stakeholder groups.

Job Duties:

ExternalCommunications
Develop and implementmarketing communications plans for the Division of SAES, division units andleverage organic and commercially available communications tools to increaseawareness among students, families, alumni, campus colleagues, and other stakeholdergroups of Student Affairs' services/programs/offerings.

Execute strategic marketingcommunications for the Division of SAES to both internal and external audiencesthat includes promoting the vast division capabilities with a strong focus onstudent engagement, support, and success to prospective and current studentsand their families via effective communication tools including copywriting,website content, newsletters, marketing materials, and social media campaignsthat are consistent and in line with the marketing and communication goals ofStudent Affairs and division units.

Collaborate withcommunications professionals within the Division of SAES and external todivision to develop and amplify compelling joint story telling of our mutuallybeneficial partnerships.

Communicate the Division ofSAES capabilities and success stories through news media, press releases,social media, newsletters, reports, flipbooks, and other innovative mediums.

Develop marketing campaignswith Admissions/Enrollment Management with the goal of attracting new studentsand supporting division business units (housing and dining).

Create marketing campaignsand materials for Division of SAES events and campus special events.

Develop and maintain theDivision of SAES website and assist with website content questions from campusmarcom staff.

Contributes to the overallsuccess of the Division of SAES by performing other essential duties asassigned.

Internal CommunicationsSetup, organize, and manageinternal communication/project management tools like Monday.com, PhotoShelter,Microsoft Teams, One Drive, and SharePoint.

Prepare and send out divisionemails via Slate or other campus identified platforms.

Lead the Divisioncommunicators cross-division team and monthly in-service training to build thecapacity of division communicators to deliver high quality campaigns,materials, and presentations.

Create briefs and marketingpackets for Division of SAES and campus leadership for stakeholder visits.

Ensure timely and accurateresponses to marketing and communications related requests for information fromDivision of SAES Associate Vice Presidents, unit directors, and internal and/orexternal stakeholders.

Select and create logoedpromotional items based on university guidelines.

Conceptualize design outcomesand layouts for stewardship and annual reports, flipbooks, and campus overviewdocuments by keeping abreast of design trends.

Mentoringand Supervision
Recruit and hire social mediainterns as needed. Train, supervise, and oversee task assignments for students.

Guide social media interns tocreate engaging messaging by strategizing the best way to visualize content.

Share best practices forcommunicating to Division of SAES units and departments through mentorship tomarcom teams by supporting the growth and development of their marketingefforts.

Dataand Reporting
Track marketing analytics andreport on effectiveness of communication strategies.
Compile division-wideprogrammatic data, images, videos and analyze and create content forpromotional use and/or stewardship reports.
Create annual reports for theDivision of Student Affairs and Enrollment Services and support any otherdivision units as needed.

COMPLEXITY AND CREATIVITY
The Assistant Director Marketing must:

  • Have an ability to learn and understand academic timelines and cycles along with what captivates current students to remain engaged in the overall student experience.
  • Must be able to develop marketing and communication strategies to help students understand university process, deadlines, and support systems to remove barriers towards continued enrollment and graduation.
  • Interpret and articulate complex ideas into creative and persuasive messages in print, digital, and other mediums.
  • Effectively and professionally communicate and appeal with students from diverse backgrounds.

Example 1: TheAssistant Director Marketing mustbe able to takecomplex information, simplify it and deliver engaging emails to meet divisionstandards which are an open rate of 30% and clickthrough rate of 4%.
Example2: The Assistant Director Marketing must be able to develop,design, execute and evaluate campaigns and recommend adjustments as needed.
Example3: The Assistant Director Marketing will demonstrate leadership for thedivision and with unit leaders to ensure communication goals are met.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, business administration, communications, public relations, or a closely related field.

Experience:

  • Three (3) years of professional work experience in marketing, public relations, communications, brand management, or a related professional area.
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic marketing and project management.

Knowledge,Skills and Abilities

  • Effective leadership, communication, team oriented, organizational, and personal relations skills, including a comfort level with interacting with various constituents within an organization at all levels.
  • Skill with the following software programs: Adobe In-Design; email marketing platforms (Slate); Microsoft suite of programs and Outlook.
  • Ability to work independently while ensuring supervisor and division leadership are kept informed of progress.
  • Solid understanding of marketing concepts, strong content writing skills, self-motivation, confident and creative.
  • Effective decision-making skills, the ability to prioritize tasks, and the ability to leverage and manage resources, both internal and external.
  • Demonstrate effective project management skills and ability to balance multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines is required.

Preferred Qualifications

Education:

  • Master's degree in marketing, Communications, Business, or related field.

Experience:

  • Work experience in a higher education environment.
  • Video Editing experience.
