Spanish Teacher, part time

The Banner School, located in Frederick MD seeks a dynamic, innovative, and student-centered Spanish teacher to teach for a 3/4 time position in the 2024 -25 school year.. Banner School is a connected community with over 40 years of history working with diverse learners, utilizing student centered teaching strategies, and prioritizing academic excellence both in and beyond the classroom. Position Summary

Operating since 1982, the Banner School serves approximately 120 students within the Frederick area and provides a comprehensive, high-quality experience for preschool to eighth grade students. We offer small classroom settings where students engage with compassionate, committed faculty members who are eager to participate in the academic and co-curricular life of a nurturing and engaging school community. The Spanish teacher will offer hands-on, project oriented, Spanish lessons aligned with Maryland World Readiness Standards for Learning Languages and the Banner School instructional approach.The Spanish teacher is a creative, and engaging educator who creates dynamic lessons that teach students in Spanish language learning and global competencies.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A passion for hands-on, project-oriented, and experiential lesson plans designed to develop students’ content knowledge, academic skills, and critical thinking
  • A willingness and experience with individual instruction designed to support and challenge students using multiple learning styles
  • Knowledge of K-8 school students, practice, and pedagogy, and an understanding of their distinct learning and developmental needs
  • Experience with or willingness to be trained in Google Classroom and all G-suite Apps.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and in a timely manner with parents and students in person and virtually
  • High professional standards consistent with The Banner School culture of respect and responsive classroom management techniques
  • A commitment to professional growth in their discipline and teaching practice.

Essential Functions

This position comes with significant duties in the areas of classroom instruction, parent communication, and program development aligned with the mission of the school. Duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Teach hands-on, project-oriented, and experiential lesson plans designed to develop students’ content knowledge, academic skills, and critical thinking
  • Implement individualized instruction designed to support and challenge students using multiple learning styles
  • Evaluate each student’s progress in Spanish content and academic skills
  • Communicate regularly with parents to discuss individual student’s progress utilizing multiple electronic platforms (RenWeb/Google Classroom)
  • Collaborate with the administrative team, middle school, and primary teachers in the planning and implementation of school wide events and interdisciplinary curricula
  • Update staff and parents on programming, instructional methods, and assessments

Additional Roles and Responsibilities

  • Participate in weekly programming activities such as recess assignments, after-school duties, and carline duty
  • Attend faculty meetings and school functions including graduation, open house, back to school events, and other required school events
  • Participate, collaborate, and work on program development and curriculum at grade-level and full faculty meetings
  • Contribute to the school community outside of the classroom as a coach, student advisor, student club leader strongly preferred

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in Spanish Education, Spanish, or a closely related degree
  • 2 years experience teaching elementary and/or middle grade students
  • Experience creating multileveled assessment options for diverse learners
  • Advanced degree or teacher certification is preferred
