The Arc of the Capital Area is Hiring a Substitute Program Instructor for I/DD Program Near Austin, TX

PROGRAM INSTRUCTOR PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Responsible for the curriculum and instruction of the Art and Education Program for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Responsible for leading a group of individuals with engaging lesson plans while developing positive and professional relationships with staff, clients, families, community and provider partners. Oversight of record keeping and case notes in accordance with HIPAA regulations. Providing program and community growth. Meeting goals set forth by Art and Education Program Manager and Site Coordinator.

**This position requires availability Monday through Friday from 8:30am - 2:30pm in person. This position is a sub/traveling role to cover shifts as needed in Leander, Hutto, or Austin, TX **

  • Lead a medium to large group of I/DD learners to further their independence through a robust education program
  • Provide assistance to the Education Manager in managing the education, art studio, class instruction, client safety, client instruction, client behavior redirection, volunteers, and interns
  • Provide assistance to the Education Manager and Site Coordinator in managing day-to-day activities of the art studio, gallery, and education programs
  • Write daily attendance and progress notes of clients that meet contract provider guidelines for billing
  • Assist with the organization of the classroom and supplies to ensure efficiency
  • Provide community growth through relationship building.
  • Participate in fundraising efforts to meet goals.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Have experience teaching group classes
  • Have demonstrated ability in teamwork, group leadership skills and the ability to speak to large groups.
  • Have experience utilizing computers for daily work and database software.
  • Demonstrated knowledge, understanding and patience while working with individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities
  • Demonstrated knowledge on promoting skill development through positive education
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and build relationships with key community members.
  • Requires excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Requires a High School Diploma or Equivilent
  • Requires a ID or Drivers license and proof of car insurance.
  • Must be willing to undergo a background check
  • Requires the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of students with disabilities, parents, administrative staff, and co-workers
  • Requires experience using a computer and Microsoft products
  • Background in art and/or art instruction is a plus
  • Additional skills/experience may be required.
