POSITION: Major Gifts Officer ($91k – $95K) FLSA CLASSIFICATION: Exempt 

STATUS: Full Time NORMAL WORKING HOURS/DAYS: Hybrid M-F; 9am-5pm (2 to 3 Days in the Office) Some Evenings/Weekend

Position Summary Statement:

The Arc seeks an experienced Major Gifts Officer. This position reports to the Chief Development Officer (CDO) and will work with the CDO to coordinate The Arc Prince George’s County’s (The Arc’s) major gifts fundraising efforts. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of facilitating the creation of long-term philanthropic relationships and growing organizational revenue. 

The Major Gifts Officer must have in-depth knowledge of major and principal gift philanthropy, and the necessary skills and expertise to develop and cultivate new relationships and effectively position The Arc Prince George’s County with major gift prospects. This person will be a proven leader, team player who serves as a community-wide collaborator. Maintain positive oral and written contact with donors, funding agencies, business leaders, community groups, boards of directors of such organizations, and others for the purpose of exchanging information and ideas and for the purpose of fundraising; This position has no direct reports.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Manage a portfolio of 60-75 (i.e. 25 in Year 1, 40 in Year 2, and 60 min. in Year 3) active and prospective major donors $25,000-$100,000. This includes building relationships to secure and manage gifts, writing proposals, conducting donor meetings and briefings, briefing Executive staff for high-level meetings, managing timely and accurate benefits delivery or donor follow-up, as required.
  • Support the CDO in developing and executing a plan for prospecting and major donor outreach. 
  • Partner with The Arc program staff to cultivate relationships with both active and prospective donors, staying nimble and current on program and policy messaging as priorities and urgencies change.
  • Develop a strong fluency in The Arc’s mission and key funding priorities.
  • Maintain timely and accurate records in Donor Perfect to ensure quality reporting and transparency throughout the team.

While performing the duties of this job, employees are regularly required to use written and oral communication skills; read and interpret data, information and documents; analyze and solve non- routine and complex problems; use math and mathematical reasoning; observe and interpret situations; learn and apply new knowledge or skills; perform highly detailed work on multiple, concurrent tasks; work under intensive deadlines with frequent interruptions and interact with the community stakeholders including elected and appointed officials, staff people served, the public and others encountered in the course of work. Ability to write reports and correspondence. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. 

Working Conditions 

Typical office environment. Must be familiar with essential office equipment(e.g., computer, scanner, copier, postage machines, etc..) Th employee is required to sit, walk, and stand; talk or hear both in person and by telephone; use hands repetitively to finger, handle, feel, or operate standard office equipment; reach with hands and arms; and lift up to 25lbs.

Requirements

 Requirements and qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. 
  • A minimum of three years’ work experience at a nonprofit agency, specifically in the field of major gift fundraising, sales, or marketing; CFRE preferred but not required.
  • Understand ethical behavior and business practices and ensure that own behavior and the behavior of others is consistent with these standards and aligns with the values of the organization. 
  • Speak, listen, and write in a clear, thorough and timely manner using appropriate and effective communication tools and techniques. 
  •  Develop new and unique ways to improve operations of the organization and to create new opportunities.

  •  Assess situations to determine the importance, urgency, and risks, and make clear decisions which are timely and in the best interests of the organization. 
  • Set priorities, develop a work schedule, monitor progress towards goals, and track details, data, information, and activities. 
  • Determine strategies to move the organization forward, set goals, create, and implement actions plans, and evaluate the process and results. 
  • Assess problem situations to identify causes, gather and process relevant information, generate possible solutions, and make recommendations and/or resolve the problem. 
  • Knowledge of mission objectives, policies, programs, and procedures of nonprofit organizations.
  •  Knowledge of computer software, especially donor management software. 
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and coordinate successful submission of fundraising solicitation letters, white papers, grant proposals and tracking expected outcomes and all major gift operations. 
  • Superior oral and written communication skills.
  • Computer proficient in using Microsoft Office applications such as Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Proficient in the use of Google Drive, Dropbox, and SharePoint 
  • Ability to multi-task, pay attention to details and stay organized.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with CEO, CFO, staff, volunteers, community groups, and other related agencies.
