Job Summary
  • The Manager of Radiology is competent in performing all general and advanced level imaging procedures and performs patient assessment within the scope of practice. Responsible for the day to day operations of the Radiology Department to ensure exams and imaging are complete. Responsible for the performance of radiological exams, radiology records, and equipment maintenance. Coordinates and participates in onboarding and training of diagnostic technologists. Performs administrative work in planning, organizing, and directing the staff and services along with providing evidence-based clinical guidance. Ensures proper staffing. Keeps appropriate documents needed for Texas Department of State Health Inspections. Assists in renewing the Certification of X-ray Registration.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Performs diagnostic radiographs for procedures and exams. Assists with transport of patients, including to and from radiology or exam table as needed.
  • Orientation and training of new radiology staff. Responsible for building and maintaining the radiology staff schedule. Responsible for covering any unfilled shifts on the schedule. Help to coordinate coverage for call-ins and absences. Serves as an expert resources for staff for clinical, process, or technical questions. Be active in interviewing radiology applicants with Nurse Director.
  • Maintains equipment to include cleaning, inspecting and reporting any malfunctions. Maintains, tracks, and confirms that all radiation regulated standards are met.
  • Implements and monitors radiation safety measures to ensure safety of patients and staff and compliance with government regulatory requirements.
  • Ensures radiology inventory meets facility's needs.
  • Interprets and implements policies, procedures, rules and regulations affecting all radiology activities of the hospital. Clearly communicate and introduce new processes into the department/unit. Coordinate in-services with new equipment and orient new staff.
  • Ensure RSO binder is kept up to date. Ensure dosimeters badges are maintained, returned, and replaced to meet hospital requirements. Review dosimeter reports for overexposures and report overexposures to EOC and HSO.
  • Inputs data into the computer and organizes files accordingly. Works with physicists for annual performances and maintenance. Performs/records monthly/daily QA/QC on required equipment.
  • Keep Nurse Director apprised of any needs, issues, repairs, and any concerns. Work with the director on planning, organizing and directing Imaging Service operations and ensuring compliance with all local, state and federal regulations. Maintain state of readiness (regulatory) for Radiology.
  • Must work within scope of practice.
  • Performs other duties as required (annual lead inventory check, annual Image Gently/Wisely, etc.).
Qualifications
Education and Licenses:
  • Associate degree with an AMA approved school of Radiologic Technology, either college-affiliate or hospital trained. Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • ARRT (R) Certified
  • Current License with TDSHS, CMRT
  • CPR Certified
Experience:
  • Three years clinical experience with progressive responsibilities in an acute care hospital environment.
  • Experience with electronic health record (EHR) databases. Demonstrates a willingness to learn new procedures and assist in other areas as needed.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience scheduling multiple technologists and areas (Diagnostic, Surgery, and CT)
  • Working knowledge of PACS/RIS. Actively participates in the Quality Assurance program(s).
  • Follows procedure protocols and policies and procedures in performing diagnostic x-ray procedures. Critiques images for image quality for interpretation.
  • Experience operating C-arm, O-arm, and CR/DR. MRI and CT experience preferred.
  • Computer literate and the ability to learn new software, as needed.
