What we want

We are excited to announce this opportunity to join the Department of Student Activities as our Student Development Specialist III on the Campus Engagement and Traditions Team! Campus Engagement and Traditions (CET) is a unit within the Department of Student Activities that plays host to both the Student Government Association (SGA) and Class Councils.

Our team is energetic, fast-paced, student-focused, and compassionate. The Student Development Specialist III is a dynamic role that works heavily with students on their development and leadership capabilities, in addition to high-profile campus programming.

Within this role, you will have the opportunity to be a primary and secondary advisor a variety of the 20 organizations within SGA and Class Councils.

As an advisor to these organizations, you will be responsible for the planning, advising, and implementing of major campus traditions, programs, events, and conferences.

Outside of student advising and programming, this position would have the opportunity to work with areas and projects like the following : facilities management, assessment, student organization marketing, advisor development, traditions enrichment, leadership training, curriculum development, etc.

What you need to know

Salary : $46,000 / year

Professional Development : $3,200 / year budget for professional development opportunities and conference attendance

Position Details : Employee will supervise (1) Student Assistant. General office conditions with the majority of time spent in contact with students.

Attends meetings and conferences concerning students and with student groups at times beyond usual working hours. Requires some evening and weekend work.

Commitment to university’s and department’s core values. Ability to work nights and periodic weekends as needed.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience :

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience

Three years’ experience in student affairs work or related specialty area, with two years of experience in Student Affairs

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others

Oral and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications :

Master’s degree in student affairs, higher education or related field

Two or more years as a Student Development Specialist II or other post-graduate experience in higher education, student affairs, or specific area(s) described in this position description

Significant student group advising, leadership training, and experience in the specific area(s) described in this position description

Essential Duties / Tasks :

Advising Class Councils and Student Government Association - Provides direct and indirect advising support to multiple sponsored-level and recognized organizations within the Student Government Association and Class Councils.

Provides administrative support to a student group which may include, but is not limited to, leadership development, training and development for students and advisors, risk management activities, programming and logistics for events, recruitment and retention, evaluation of programs, adherence to policies and procedures including judicial processes, financial oversight including budgeting, marketing and communication for various constituent groups, vendor and donor relationships, student travel, technological resources, inventory management, document review, and other tasks as required by the group or department.

Area Operations - CET - Responsible for operational aspects within the Campus Engagement & Traditions team. Duties may include, but are not limited to facilities / suite and inventory management, supporting team-wide assessment and strategic planning efforts for the area, and serving in a support / backup position for the CET Student Affairs Coordinator.

Potential responsibility of program assessment, facilitation of SGA advisor / student leader trainings, curriculum development of the Leadership Academy program for CET student leaders, serving as support staff for CET programs, and stakeholder outreach.

Program Administration & Oversight Marketing & Development - Oversees branding and marketing efforts to internal and external stakeholders for organizations and area.

Works in coordination with departmental marketing and development efforts. Cultivates vendor relationships within the Student Government Association to support organizational endowment growth efforts.

Serves as the liaison to the SGA Former Student Network.

Supervision - Directly supervises graduate student(s), and / or student assistants, practicum students, and interns.

Other Duties - Participate on university, division, and / or department committees and task forces. Other duties as assigned.
