DAY IN A LIFE:
The Assistant Director of Academic Advising reports to the Director of Academic Advising and Coaching and is responsible for successfully implementing, managing, and assessing the college advising units on Texas A&M - Corpus Christi's campus. The Assistant Director position serves as a central resource and contact for the senior advisors. In coordination with Academic Advising leadership, the Assistant Director ensures all senior advisors are trained and equipped to provide undergraduate students with the highest quality advisement possible. This position possesses up-to-date information on Texas A&M - Corpus Christi's academic colleges, facilitates pathways towards degree completion in coordination with colleges, and recommends standardized advisement practices. The Assistant Director will also serve on assigned committees and/or work groups to ensure they are knowledgeable about activities and information that impact the college advising units.
HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE:
Operations : 55%
Manage activities related to the college advising units, including determining advisor/advisee caseloads, ratios, and student assignments.
Supervises the day-to-day operations of the college advising units. Provides guidance and direction to staff involved in department services and programs.
Participates in the strategic planning for assigned areas and assists the Director in developing and implementing the overall departmental strategic plan.
Supervisory Management : 40%
Hire and supervises senior advisors. Develops and implements onboard training, cross-training, professional development opportunities, and continuous feedback to advisors through the evaluation process.
Evaluate effectiveness and efficiency of advisement delivered by senior/undergraduate advisors to students. Conduct data analysis projects; implement assessment initiatives designed to enrich advising and case management.
Program Management : 5%
Cross-trained in multiple majors and disciplines, as needed.
Model the core values for the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) Academic Advisor.
Generate reports on student trends, risk-indicators, usage data, etc. utilizing technology, including Starfish software. Communicate and discuss findings with constituents.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Academic Advising and Coaching or other appropriate administrators.
QUALIFICATIONS
Master's degree in Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, or related field
Six (6) years of related experience in student services program.
Additional experience may be considered as a substitution for the minimum requirements
Bachelor's degree and eight years of relevant experience
Strong critical thinking, memorization, attention to detail, and communication skills,
Ability to work independently while developing strong collaborative relationships.
Ability to exercise excellent professional judgment and discretion, making decisions regularly that impact student welfare and the institution.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience with student success technology platforms.
Experience working with transfer students.
SALARY:
$60,000/Annual
