Job Description
The Mary and Jeff Bell Library at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi invites applications for the position of Reference Services Librarian at the rank of Assistant or Associate Librarian. This is a non-tenure track faculty librarian position; rank will be determined upon qualifications. This position is primarily responsible for coordinating the library's reference service and managing our virtual reference platform, LibAnswers. The Reference Services Librarian will work closely with colleagues, graduate assistants, and student assistants to ensure that patrons are receiving the best possible service when they need research assistance from the library.
Responsibilities:
Coordinates the library's reference service, including scheduling and, in collaboration with the Library Associate I in Access Services, hiring, training, and supervising graduate assistants who help provide the service.
Serves as the manager for the library's LibAnswers platform and provides training and support on that platform for other library staff.
Evaluates the quality of the reference service and addresses any issues, identifying areas in need of improvement or innovation.
Creates resources to assist others in providing high-quality reference services and plans continuing education and training opportunities for reference staff.
Provides reference services via chat, phone, email, and in person.
Serves on the library's OER Working Group, helping to provide outreach to the campus community, supporting open initiatives, and offering training and advisory services to faculty on topics related to open educational resources.
As a member of an instruction team, provides information literacy instruction sessions both in-person and online, and creates lesson plans, learning objects, and assessments as needed.
Collaborates with staff in other units to help optimize the functionality of library systems and resources for patrons.
Increases professional competence through formal or informal study and professional development activities and is encouraged to develop a record of scholarship/creative activity.
Serves on library, university, and/or professional committees.
Performs other duties as assigned.
The Mary and Jeff Bell Library provides resources and services to assist users with their research and information needs. Over million physical items are listed in the online catalog, and many more items are accessible through our electronic resources. Over 300 online databases and more than 100,000 electronic journals contain scholarly material to assist students in completing research projects or assignments. The Library provides both in-person and virtual reference service, research skills and information literacy instruction, interlibrary loan, a makerspace lab, an AR/VR lab, and over 170 computers for research and coursework. Special Collections and Archives houses a wealth of resources focusing on Corpus Christi, Coastal Bend, and South Texas.

Required Qualifications:
Master's degree in Library Science or equivalent from an ALA-accredited program. Current MLS students graduating on or before June 2023 will be considered.
Evidence of leadership, entrepreneurship, and initiative.
Strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills and willingness to experiment with new methods and technologies.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Highly developed interpersonal skills, including the ability to collaborate effectively with library colleagues, faculty, staff, and students.
Demonstrated commitment to service excellence, diversity, and inclusion, and a patron-centered approach to library services.
Preferred Qualifications:
One (1) year of relevant academic library experience in a public services capacity.
Experience providing reference services in multiple modalities.
Knowledge of information literacy concepts and experience with applying them in a university-level research context.
Experience developing and teaching library instruction sessions.
Experience with Springhare's LibAnswers platform.
Experience with open educational resources and practices.
Knowledge of accessibility requirements and tools for remediating issues.
Experience with coordinating a program or service, including assessment.
Experience with non-traditional and/or first-generation college students.
Demonstrated contribution to the profession, including scholarly publications and/or presentations and service to professional organizations.
