Tetra Tech’s geotechnical office in Diamond Bar, CA provides a very broad range of services to a very broad range of clients.Our projects include dams, levees, surface mining and reclamation, landfill design, expansions, and closures, brownfield redevelopments, infrastructure projects, landslides assessments and mitigations,and conventional geotechnical engineering projects involving foundations for hi-rises, commercial, industrial, single-family buildings, as well as offers forensics, expert, and agency review services.Our clients include federal, state, county, and local government agencies as well as private entities.Our staff includes certified and mostly higher degree geotechnical engineering, geology, and field construction staff.The Diamond Bar geotechnical group provides advanced geotechnical engineering services, typically focusing on earthquake engineering and advanced numerical modeling, to the Tetra Tech's worldwide operations.Although most of our projects are in Southern California, we routinely provide services in Northern California, Arizona, and New Mexico, and occasionally across the country and internationally.

Our office is seeking a Staff Engineer.A qualified candidate should be a graduate of a curriculum with a focus on geotechnical engineering, have a genuine interest in the craft, be enthusiastic, analytical, and possess competent written and oral communication skills.Although preferred, no previous experience is necessary, and training will be provided. The pay scale for this position is $60K - $90K, based on qualifications and experience. 

Your Role:

  • Support the project team in all steps of the project process
  • Procure and perform field investigations including site reconnaissance and field mapping, borehole logging, CPT coordination, infiltration testing, hand-auger sampling, and others
  • Perform field grading observations and testing including observations of removals, bottom certifications, and compaction testing
  • Assist in sample processing and laboratory testing
  • Borehole log preparation
  • Basic drafting
  • Data processing
  • Perform assigned engineering analyses, i.e., slope stability, liquefaction, settlement, seismic demand determination, and pavement design
  • Assist project professionals with preparation of reports

Qualifications:

  • EIT or eligibility to sit for EIT exam
  • Graduate from a relevant engineering program
  • Experience in a geotechnical consulting firm is preferred
  • Familiarity with common geotechnical engineering analyses
  • Strong competency with Excel and Word is a must
  • Familiarity/competency with drafting and presentation software, e.g., Corel Draw, Adobe Illustrator, AutoCAD is a plus
  • Adequate oral communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Willingness to work in the field as needed
  • Ability/willingness to travel
  • Must be able to work outdoors under varying weather conditions, travel by foot over rough terrain, and lift at least 40 pounds
