Summary: 

Tetra Tech invites you to consider a rewarding opportunity as a Geophysicist Intern within our Lakewood, Colorado office. This position requires the candidate to work in the office or field regularly with our team to receive one-on-one training from other staff, form relationships with fellow employees with various backgrounds, and more fully and quickly integrate into our team.

In this role, the successful candidate will work primarily with our geophysics team, supporting the development of geologic site characterizations, mine reclamation and closure plans, figure development, technical reporting, and general project support. An interest in working with a multi-disciplinary team of geologists, geophysicists, engineers, and data modelers for various clients is a must.Additional project work may include supporting other active mine and abandoned mine site projects, including environmental site monitoring, mine lands site evaluations, mine permitting and compliance, and engineering design for mine site restoration.

Your Role:

We seek an energetic individual interested in pursuing and supporting various challenging projects.The successful candidate will work closely with Principal and Project Geophysicists, Scientists, and Engineers on various engineering and environmental projects.Duties include office work, geophysical fieldwork, data processing, and reporting. 

Office work will include preparing comprehensive inventories of site features, rapidly understanding, updating, and improving complex Excel spreadsheets, preparing technical memoranda and reports, preparing basic CAD or GIS-based figures, completing quality checks, summarizing geophysical data for input into technical reports, and creating accurate data tables.

Strong problem-solving, time management, and written and verbal communication skills are required, as well as the ability to learn and integrate new skills and software programs (including but not limited to MATLAB, Python, ArcGIS Pro, etc.). The position may require some travel, typically related to field data collection, construction oversight, environmental sampling, and site reconnaissance. A minimum of 60% of travel will be required for this position.

Qualifications:

  • Currently in the last semester of a 4-year degree in geology, geophysics, or earth science required.
  • 0-2 years' experience. 
  • Education and career interests should be related to geophysical assessments.
  • Must be computer literate and know MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
  • Proficiency in ArcGIS or CAD is a plus.
  • MSHA and/or OSHA HAZWOPER certification preferred.
  • Ability to travel and perform field tasks (minimum of 60% of travel required).
  • A Pre-employment drug screening in compliance with state regulations is required.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record without restrictions. 

Target salary range: $22.00 / hr to $25.00 / hr.  The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
