Tetra Tech Careers is Hiring an Environmental Scientist Near Portland, OR

Tetra Tech seeks a self-motivated professional with a desire to grow and develop their role to improve our capacity to serve clients and the natural world. The Environmental Scientist will work with a small team of biologists, environmental planners, and engineers to design and execute aquatic habitat restoration projects, biological studies, environmental assessments, and help develop permit applications and NEPA documents for projects throughout the west coast and Alaska. Examples of some of our projects include:

  • Environmental review of an 800k acre-foot groundwater bank in California,
  • Wetland revegetation on an island in the Columbia River,
  • Salton Sea Restoration Project,
  • Endangered Species Act / Marine Mammal Protection Act compliance for a U.S. Coast Guard base in Alaska, and
  • Wildlife monitoring on the Santa Ana River

Creative problem solvers interested in bringing innovative technology to the forefront of environmental consulting are encouraged to apply. Candidates should have broad interests and background to address projects that may include:

  • Conducting field surveys for vegetation, wildlife, wildlife habitat, and riverine features in the Pacific Northwest
  • GIS mapping and data analysis
  • NEPA/SEPA documentation processes, preparation, and analysis
  • Performing wetland delineations
  • Fisheries studies and fish monitoring
  • ESA compliance
  • Preparing and overseeing development of environmental permits, including CWA Sections 404/401
  • Stream and wetland restoration
  • Assisting in business development for biological/environmental work

Qualifications:

  • BS or MS in Biology/Geography/Environmental Sciences/Water Resources Sciences
  • 1-3 years of professional experience in environmental science and project management including NEPA, permitting, GIS, surveying, permitting, water quality, and wetland delineations
  • Knowledge of local plant, fish and/or wildlife species and their habitat requirements
  • Ability to research and prepare reports on environmental disciplines, regulations, and policies (NEPA/SEPA and ESA documentation)
  • Experience with federal, state, and local environmental permitting regulations and processes
  • Ability to communicate professionally and work collaboratively with regulatory agency staff, co-workers, management, clients and the public
  • Strong personal organization skills, including the ability to deliver work products of multiple projects on time
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Proficiency with GPS equipment and ArcGIS software
  • Valid driver's license
