What to Expect

Our group's mission is to work closely with manufacturing line owners in the Fremont factory to deliver new product introductions, capacity enhancements and continuous improvement projects. This team acts as the bridge between the core manufacturing engineer teams (vehicle and powertrain) and factory operations to ensure that the operational needs of the Fremont factory are met when designing and landing new equipment. The team is intimately familiar with local standards and delivers smooth integration and handover of new lines to the sustaining teams. The Fremont Factory ME role is dedicated to Bay Area projects, and the ideal candidate will have stronger interests in project execution and ramping equipment to rate. Hands-on support on the shop floor is expected as the need arises in General Assembly.

Knowledge and experience of the complete project life cycle from scoping through to equipment handover is essential.

What You'll Do
  • Lead manufacturing line design and launch - bid package development, vendor selection, front-end engineering design, design reviews, fabrication, acceptance testing, construction, installation, commissioning and handover to operations
  • Manage project execution to ensure they are delivered to scope, on time and on budget. Procure equipment, track budget costs, and project schedules
  • Ensure manufacturing lines meet uptime, availability and reliability metrics - OEE, cycle time, quality and first time through
  • Develop and deliver training to operations and maintenance technicians to ensure and seamless handover of new equipment
  • Develop initial manufacturing strategies for new projects by performing detailed feasibility, project timing and cost estimate studies
  • Provide technical support for the assessment of different manufacturing scenarios
  • Identify, investigate, test and validate new innovative technology and work methods for future implementation (e.g. virtual manufacturing environment, product feasibility simulation, throughput simulation).
  • Support sourcing activities including identification of potential suppliers and technical evaluations of quotations
  • Iterate engineering design to meet functional requirements and lead vendors through mechanical, electrical and software design reviews.
  • Install, commission and start-up equipment balancing speed and safety
What You'll Bring
  • BS in Mechanical/Electrical/Chemical/Industrial Engineering, or equivalent experience (Other Technical Disciplines Encouraged to apply)
  • Experience creating & maintaining a positive atmosphere in a collaborative work team
  • Experience in automotive manufacturing processes is preferred in operations, maintenance or engineering capacity
  • Ability to manage workload while contributing to a positive, team-oriented work environment
  • Enjoys troubleshooting and problem solving
  • Skilled with the use of a variety of hand and portable tools
  • Skilled with common workplace software (MS Word, Excel. PowerPoint etc)
  • Able to read and interpret basic mechanical drawings and electrical schematics
  • Willing to perform shift work (nights) and overtime as required
  • Some travel is expected - e.g. for vendor visits, equipment installation and commissioning. The role is based in Fremont

Expected Compensation

$80,000 - $258,000/annual salary cash and stock awards benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
