Sommelier/Captain with a Michelin-Star Team in Ybor City!

Tampa, Florida (Ybor City)

Hourly Tips up to $40/hour, for a total annualized income of between $72,000-$83,000/year full-time equivalent.

Ten Rooms Ybor is an exciting multi-experience venue opening in Spring 2024 consisting of a restaurant, café, retail, and events space.

The Sommelier-Captain position is a unique opportunity to be creative, shape the beverage program, and execute at a high level alongside a Michelin-pedigreed team.

Reporting to the General Manager, the position will be responsible for, and daily execution of service at Bar Martinez the upscale restaurant concept located within Ten Rooms.

All candidates are required to be confident and positive communicators, flexible, open to change, able to work with new technologies, and open to excel above industry standards. The Sommelier will be surrounded and supported by a rockstar team of Michelin-experienced operators and will have a lasting impact on the hospitality industry in the Tampa Bay Area.

Experience in the desired position and good working knowledge of fine wine is required. Candidates with accreditations with the CMS, WSET, or CWE will be especially considered.

Michelin star experience not required, however, experience working in a restaurant that was awarded one or more stars is advantageous.

Responsibilities/Skills:

  • Work nightly service in a station, attending to tables, as well as assisting guests with wine selections
  • Inspire and help the FOH team to level up their wine knowledge
  • Work with the leadership team to taste, source, and manage wine inventory.
  • Accurately and efficiently track COGS and stock using MarginEdge
  • Take monthly inventory of wine and account for variances and depletions
  • Ensure proper equipment operation/maintenance as it relates to the wine program
  • Cooperate with the rest of the team across different types of media
  • Team player with strong communication and presentation skills
  • Incorporate feedback and take/give direction well
  • Relevant education or training (CMS, WSET, CWE or similar)
  • Other related duties as they arise

This is an hourly tipped position, consisting of between $15-19/hour plus participation in the tip pool. The Sommelier can expect to earn between $72,000-$83,000/year full-time equivalent.


Working Environment/Minimum Physical Requirements

You must possess the physical, visual, and auditory ability to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations and be able to meet the following requirements:

  • Fluent in English; able to speak, read, write
  • Tolerate varying noise levels, temperature, and illumination and air quality.
  • Hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
  • Normal sense of smell, taste, touch and sound.
  • Able to respond to visual or aural cues.
  • Continuously or periodically bend, twist, lean, lift, push, pull, kneel, bend, walk, stand, and/or sit up to 8-plus hours per shift.
  • Regularly lift up to 35 pounds in order to perform the essential functions.
  • Occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required in the restaurant industry.
  • Work in a stressful environment and stressful situations.
  • Work in an environment where climate constantly changes.
  • Maneuver freely through all areas of the property.
