Responsibilities:

A lead fiber optic splicer technician plays a crucial role in the installation, maintenance, and repair of fiber optic communication systems. Their roles and responsibilities include:

· Fiber Optic Splicing: Perform precise and reliable fusion splicing of fiber optic cables. Use specialized equipment to align and join fiber optic strands, ensuring low loss and high-quality connections. Conduct testing and verification of spliced fibers to ensure proper signal transmission.

· Team Leadership: Lead and supervise a team of fiber optic splicer technicians. Provide guidance, training, and support to ensure the team's efficiency and productivity. Delegate tasks and monitor progress to ensure timely completion of projects.

· Project Planning and Coordination: Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to plan and coordinate fiber optic splicing activities. Develop project schedules, budgeting, allocate resources, and ensure the timely completion of tasks and deliverables.

· Fiber Optic Cable Installation: Assist in the installation of fiber optic cables, including pulling, routing, and securing cables in accordance with project specifications. Coordinate with construction teams to ensure proper cable placement and protection during installation.

· Fiber Optic Cable Testing and Troubleshooting: Utilize specialized testing equipment to measure signal loss, optical power, and other parameters to ensure the performance and quality of fiber optic connections. Identify and troubleshoot issues such as signal degradation, fiber breaks, or faulty connectors, and implement appropriate solutions.

· Fiber Optic Network Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance activities on fiber optic networks, including cleaning and inspection of connectors, splices, and patch panels. Conduct preventive maintenance to identify and address potential issues before they cause service disruptions.

· Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate documentation of fiber optic splicing activities, including splice records, test results, and project-related documentation. Generate reports detailing completed work, issues encountered, and recommendations for improvement. Provide regular updates to project stakeholders.

· Quality Assurance: Implement quality assurance processes and procedures to ensure the accuracy and reliability of fiber optic splicing activities. Conduct inspections and audits to verify compliance with industry standards, best practices, and regulatory requirements.

· Safety Compliance: Establish and enforce safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment for the team. Conduct safety training, inspections, and incident investigations to prevent accidents and maintain compliance with safety regulations.

· Stakeholder Communication: Maintain effective communication with project stakeholders, including clients, engineers, and vendors. Provide regular updates on splicing progress, network performance, and any potential impact on project timelines or deliverables.

· Continuous Learning and Professional Development: Stay updated on the latest advancements, technologies, and best practices in fiber optic splicing. Attend training programs, conferences, and industry events to enhance skills and knowledge. Share knowledge and expertise with team members to foster professional growth.

· Inventory Management: Oversee and manage the inventory of fiber optic splicing equipment, tools, and consumables. Ensure proper maintenance, calibration, and availability of equipment to support splicing activities.

Qualifications:

· Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as telecommunications, electrical engineering, or a related discipline preferred.

· Minimum two years’ experience of fiber, splicing of ribbon and single, troubleshooting, break fix, new build, Head end, hub.

· Ability to use and maintain fiber optic splicing equipment such as fusion splicers, cleavers, and OTDRs (Optical Time Domain Reflectometers).

· Knowledge of fiber optic cable types, connectors, and terminations.

· Understanding of fiber optic network design principles and architectures.

· Familiarity with industry standards and best practices related to fiber optic installations and splicing.

· Several years of hands-on experience in fiber optic splicing, with increasing levels of responsibility.

· Experience leading a team of fiber splicers or technicians is preferred.

· Knowledge of project management principles and experience coordinating splicing activities on large-scale projects.

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

· Ability to communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and clients.

· Strong interpersonal skills for working collaboratively with colleagues and external stakeholders.

· Aptitude for troubleshooting and diagnosing fiber optic network issues.

· Ability to analyze complex problems and develop effective solutions under pressure.

· Adherence to safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment.

· Knowledge of OSHA regulations and other relevant safety standards.

· Precision and attention to detail are critical in fiber optic splicing to ensure reliable connections and optimal performance of the network.

· Willingness to work in various environments, including outdoor and indoor settings, and in varying weather conditions.

· Ability to adapt to changing project requirements and schedules.

· Demonstrated leadership abilities, including the ability to motivate and mentor team members.

· Capacity to effectively manage resources, delegate tasks, and prioritize work assignments.

· Commitment to delivering high-quality workmanship and excellent service to customers.

· Ability to address customer concerns and ensure satisfaction with the completed work.
