Teco-Westinghouse Motor Company is Hiring a Quality Engineer III Near Round Rock, TX

SUMMARY

Individuals in this classification may be required to assist with management the Quality Assurance functions of TECO-Westinghouse Motor Company (TWMC) to ensure implementation of an effective program to continually improve the quality of products, processes, and procedures. Additionally they may perform a combination of the following duties as appropriate to the job assignment. Responsibilities may include planning and directing activities in the areas of development, application, and maintenance of quality system elements in manufacturing and delivery of products and services.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Facilitate the implementation of total quality initiatives.
  • Represent TWMC ensuring compliance with the ISO 9001 and other customer specified standard.
  • Assist with the establishment of quality program objectives and help set up the long and short-range activities to achieve them.
  • Monitor and develop reports on overall effectiveness of the quality program and initiate risk assessment, corrective action, and program improvements as required.
  • Plan/implement the methods that measure, control, and document the results of manufacturing activity as it relates to quality products/services and processes at the TWMC facility and monitor/report the effectiveness of the corresponding methods at other TECO facilities.
  • Support the purchasing function in the selection of suppliers, perform source inspection and audits, monitor and report supplier quality performance.
  • Create/review and approves procedures, work instructions, and forms necessary to support the document quality system.
  • Participates in the contract/design review and amendment or change process. Ensure customer requirements are determined, met, and aim enhancement of customer satisfaction.
  • Prepares and maintains quality plans for manufactured or repaired products based on the quality system, design, and special customer requirements.
  • Performs purchase order review to assure appropriate quality requirements as defined by quality plans, design, or customer requirements are communicated to suppliers.
  • Lead cross-functional teams in the establishment and maintenance of process control specifications, instructions, and standards.
  • Provides technical guidance and instruction for the inspection and testing of select products and services at specified stages in the production process to verify quality characteristics such as dimensions, material, mechanical, electrical, or performance parameters.
  • Establishes program to evaluate precision and accuracy of production equipment and testing, measurement, analytical equipment, and facilities. Develops inspection and testing methods, tooling, and related calibration requirements.
  • Reviews dispositions of nonconforming material and assigns responsibility codes.
  • Lead process improvement teams that are required to initiate and perform follow up on quality deficiencies which warrant issuance of corrective action.
  • Perform as lead auditor for the quality or HS&E audit program for suppliers and internal operations.
  • Create/reviews and approves written training material and provides guidance to others for conducts training sessions on quality control activities.
  • Develop and implement statistical procedures for acceptance sampling, problem analysis, and design of experiments. Applies statistical techniques and problem solving tools to the investigation and resolution of quality issues.
  • Directs product team activities including the measuring and testing of product and tabulating data concerning materials, product, or process quality.
  • Other functions as required (non-essential functions).

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Analyze contracts and proposals to determine what actions are necessary for compliance with the customer quality requirements.

  • Interpret design specifications and drawings to assure compliance with customer contractual requirements.
  • Establish appropriate inspection and test equipment and procedures to satisfy defined requirements.
  • Apply problem solving techniques and statistical methods for process control activities and the design of experiments.
  • Utilize PC based tools for the preparation of procedures and instructions, development of descriptive statistics, and accessing the business and engineering systems.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering/Mechanical Engineering or BS/BBA degree.
  • A thorough knowledge of industrial and power generation processes are required.
  • Five (5) years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Three (3) years of Quality Assurance supervisory or management experience preferred.
  • Training and experience using problem solving tools, statistical techniques appropriate for process control and monitoring, trend analysis, and design of experiments.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.
  • Experience with Root Cause Analysis, Six Sigma, Continuous Process Improvement, Lean Manufacturing, 6S, Process Optimization, Predictive modeling, Process Capability, PFMEA, Product Development, and Metrology Applications.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Communicate effectively with internal and external customers.
  • Write speeches, reports, manuals, correspondence, and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.
  • Effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Individuals must be able to perform the duties of the job at a level as generally prescribed and learned by attaining credentials that include one of the following bullet items:

  • ASQ Certified Quality Engineer and ASQ Certified Quality Auditor
  • ASQ Certified Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence (CMQ/OE)
  • Certified Quality Improvement Associate (CQIA)
  • Certified Lean Six Sigma Black Belt (SSBB)
  • Certified Lean Six Sigma Green Belt (SSGB)

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to work with the fundamentals of algebra, trigonometry, and apply mathematical concepts such as exponents, quadratic equations, probability, and statistical inference. Apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, and sampling theory.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract or concrete variables.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

General guidance will be provided. Must be a self-starter with the ability to work effectively and take ownership of assigned projects in a fast paced environment.
