Position Summary:

As a Project Accountant, you will be responsible for accurate and timely general accounting of your assigned department’s projects. Working with departmental project managers, you will monitor the progress of projects and milestones, investigate variances, approve expenses, and ensure that project billings are issued/posted.

Essential Functions:

• Review and approve AR & AP for your projects, and investigate/resolve disputes
• Manage the revenue recognition for assigned projects
• Prepare monthly invoices, manage invoices against budgets, and project management reports
• Provide accurate and timely accounting, reporting and project information for assigned projects
• Prepare, code and input project invoices
• Answer inquiries from staff, vendors or clients, and communicate financial information to project managers
• Maintain accounting files
• Review project contracts and additional service requests to understand the financial requirements on each project
• Analyze project cost reports and meet frequently with Finance and Project Managers to review status of projects for invoicing, profitability, earnings, and costs
• Understand how projects earn revenue in the accounting system and assist the Accounting Supervisor monthly in analyzing and recording monthly project earnings
• Attend client meetings as needed
• May provide accounting support to other staff as needed

Job Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience specific to the position responsibilities
• 3-5 years of accounting/finance experience, preferably in health/biotech
• Knowledge of accounting and finance principles and practices, and the analysis and reporting of finance-related reports
• Knowledge of GAAP and experience implementing and documenting internal controls under Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) and Committee of Sponsoring Organizations of the Treadway Commission (COSO)
• Ability to follow work direction given by others
• Demonstrated ability to build and maintain positive relationships and credibility both internally and externally
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, as well as strong interpersonal and organizational skills
• Demonstrated analytical skills and effective problem-solving capabilities
• Attention to detail and deadlines
• Comfort with a high-volume list of varied tasks
• Tenacity to develop ideas independently and thrive in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to work independently and within a team environment

Required Specialized/Technical Skills:

• Experience with ERP accounting systems; experience with NetSuite a plus
• Proficiency in project accounting software required
• Advanced experience with Excel
• Intermediate to advanced knowledge of major accounting software packages for general ledger accounting
