Position Summary

TCC Group is currently in expansion mode and therefore researching and developing new ways to build on our current assets and move us to the next stage in our organizational life cycle. In our efforts towards this, we are seeking a seasoned senior leader with deep social sector consulting experience and an entrepreneurial mind- and skillset to join our firm as Director of Strategy.

In this role, the Director will build a focused strategy consulting practice by leveraging their extensive experience and deep connections with an array of foundations, other philanthropic institutions and nonprofit organizations. TCC Group currently provides strategy services to private independent foundations, corporate foundations, family foundations and nonprofit 501C-3 public charities. In collaboration with organizational leaders, the Director of Strategy will lead and build teams to develop and offer existing and new strategy offerings (e.g., strategic planning, foundation policy, philanthropy sector building/strengthening) that address current and emerging needs in the social sector.

TCC Group has offices in New York and Philadelphia. This is a hybrid position based in either city.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Director of Strategy is a full-time employee whose primary responsibility is building and managing the firm’s Strategy services portfolio. The percentages assigned to each area below represent the estimated time needed in the first 18-24 months, as the Director launches the strategy practice. We anticipate that the time dedicated to the firm’s leadership activities will increase over time. 

• Developing and Executing a Growth Plan for the TCC Group’s Strategy Services Portfolio (75%)
  1. Refining and updating a vision for the firm's Strategy services, including desired social impact, priority audiences, capacity needs, and growth trajectory, in coordination with other leaders at the Firm.
  2. Developing an annual Service Operating Plan and ensuring strategies are implemented and goals are met.
  3. Recruiting new strategy consulting talent to assist in building the strategy services into a distinct service offering with dedicated talent and resources.
  4. Supervising, mentoring, and investing in the growth of TCC team members offering Strategy services - including ensuring appropriate training and professional development, as well as other organizational retention efforts.
  5. Overseeing the development and marketing of strategy products, tools, and associated services through business plan development, market testing, and ongoing assessment and improvement.
  6. Expanding the client base for strategy engagements by identifying prospective clients, overseeing proposal drafting, and leading the prospective client meetings and negotiations.
  7. Leading Client Engagements including overseeing, developing, monitoring and integral involvement in all aspects of the consulting assignment, project work plans and budgets.
• External Firm Leadership: Participating in Firm-Wide Thought Leadership and Business Development Opportunities (10%)
  • Representing the firm by speaking on panels at conferences and serving on committees of infrastructure organizations and professional networks.
  • Generating positive attention for the firm by serving as a "thought leader" in the field by publishing papers, articles, blogs, and disseminating knowledge.
  • Playing a key leadership role in the development and implementation of TCC Group marketing strategies, specifically related to social sector organizations.
• Internal Firm and Team Leadership (15%)
  • Serving as an integral member of the firm’s leadership, sharing responsibility for the firm’s financial health, human resource management, and ensuring that social sector impact goals are achieved.

 Qualifications and Experience

• A minimum of 15 years working in the social sector and/or consulting, working with funders, non-profits, and other social sector entities.
• A minimum of eight (8) years in a management role with proven success in organizational and team leadership
• A strong professional network in the social sector, with demonstrated success at leveraging that network to increase an organization’s visibility
• A passionate visionary, and experienced "thought leader" with a proven track record of developing, designing, and delivering effective strategy content (for workshops, conferences, articles, etc.) and services to the social sector
• A change manager/agent: a forward-thinking executive with an expansive understanding of the complexities of a rapidly shifting social sector; and demonstrated ability to adapt existing offerings as well as develop new offerings and opportunities that meet client needs
• Demonstrated intellectual curiosity, creativity, strategic thinking, and a strong desire and capacity to work with a wide variety of clients and situations
• A skilled communicator and public speaker with internal and external stakeholders at all levels
• A dynamic team leader/builder who is well versed in building/rebuilding teams, delegation, prioritization/reprioritization, and effective conflict resolution.
• A commitment to the firm's growth, excellence, and its inspired work force.

TCC Group offers a competitive and equitable total compensation package. Our comprehensive benefits package includes health insurance, 401k retirement plan with employer match, disability, life insurance, generous paid time off, and more. The salary range for this position is $240,000 - $290,000, commensurate with experience.
