Position Summary:
The purpose of the Mental Health Worker position is to provide staff coverage at the Tasks Unlimited Training Center (IRTS facility), as needed. This position generally follows guidance and makes daily tactical decisions regarding the functioning of a worksite or program. The person in the Mental Health Worker position has a high frequency of contact with external persons and/or entities. Some of these contacts may include worksite personnel, law enforcement officials, probation officers, social workers, and hospital/clinic personnel. This position generally works evenings, overnights, weekends, and Federal holidays.
Essential Job Functions: :
Mental Health Worker:
Provides mental health rehab interventions and training to clients (60%):
  • Provide mental health services to clients
  • Assist with basic living skills
  • Ensure client safety
  • Provide relief coverage at the IRTS facility as needed to cover IRTS Coordinator and Night Resident Counselor position when those staff are on vacation or sick
  • Provide coverage at the IRTS facility on weekend and overnight shifts, as scheduled
  • Montior client self-administration of medications
  • Complete client case notes detailing observations and interventions
Monitor client activities at the IRTS facility (20%):
Other related duties (20%):
  • Facilitate recreation and leisure activities that enhance clients’ social skills, knowledge of community resources, activity level, and enjoyment of leisure time
  • Attend and participates in team meetings
  • Attend required in-service trainings
  • Perform clerical support functions, as directed
  • Assist in upkeep of physical plant as directed; inform Treatment Director of needed repairs to house and equipment
  • Serve as van driver

Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
Required:
  • Must meet Department of Human Services criteria for Mental Health Rehabilitation Worker defined by Minnesota Statutes 256B.0623 and Minnesota Statutes 245.462
  • Valid driver’s license and insured vehicle
  • Smart phone with the ability to interact via specific programs and apps
Preferred :
  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, public health or other human services related field, combined with at least one year of experience working with adults who have been diagnosed with a serious and persistent mental illness
  • Familiarity with vocational rehabilitation and/or janitorial work
  • Fluent in a non-English language or competent in the culture of an ethnic group to which 20 percent or more of the agency’s recipients belong
Knowledge Areas:
  • Psychology: – Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation; psychological research messages; and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders
  • Therapy and counseling: – Knowledge of principles, methods, and procedures for diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of physical and mental dysfunctions, and for career counseling and guidance
  • Sociology and anthropology: – Knowledge of group behavior and dynamics, societal trends and influences, human migrations, ethnicity, cultures and their history and origins
  • Customer service: – Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction
  • Safety and security: – Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures and strategies to promote effective operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions

  • Flexibility: – Ability to work a flexible schedule as needed for coverage including overnights and weekends
