Tantus Technologies is Hiring a Remote Hardware Depot Technician

Overview

Technologies, Inc. (Tantus) - recognized by the Washington Post as a Top Workplace - is seeking a Hardware Depot Technician to provide support an engagement with a federal client. In this role you will provide onsite support for the federal client's depot functions, computer rooms and computer closets, which are hosted out of multiple field offices and laboratories, which include shipping, tracking, monitoring, and receiving functions to support asset management and distribution.

What You'll Do

  • Provision end users’ IT equipment, such as workstations and laptops, workstation and laptop peripherals, monitors, printers, hubs and switches, mobile devices (including smart phones and personal digital assistants), thin clients, mobile thin clients, USB drives, VoIP phones/MTC, and other IT equipment as needed
  • Provide hardware troubleshooting and repair support to identify, assess, report, mitigate, and resolve physical and/or logical problems and issues within the computing hardware
  • Support miscellaneous hardware and software purchase activities, such as identifying possible retailers, processing the purchase, reconciling, and tracking the delivery andprogress of each purchase
  • Provide asset management and distribution support to maintain, manage, track, and update all assets into the Government IT asset management system and providequarterly reports of all government furnished equipment used by the Contractor and Contractor staff
  • Conduct market research, validate hardware requirements and hardware refresh timelines, and assess licensing agreements for all hardware and software
  • Document expectations for purchases, ensuring compatibility with the infrastructure and that existing licensing agreements will not conflict with purchases
  • Determine if alternative vendors can provide more cost-effective services or products
  • Review and make all required updates to the Authorized Product List at least quarterly to support efficient software life cycle management and project and procurement planning
  • Ensure that physical access to computer rooms and closets is continuously monitored and maintained through in-house cameras and surveillance systems
  • Install, upgrade, troubleshoot issues, patch, deploy, and configure baseline images of approved agency operating systems so completed images integrate with all approved agency enterprise hardware and software
  • Provision end-user workstations using the authorized and standardized image, and follow and maintain a repeatable process that allows for multiple machines to be created simultaneously
  • Develop and maintain documentation of installation procedures, backup plans, troubleshooting steps, and technical topology diagrams
  • Assist data center manager with computer room management expertise to manage and maintain the physical layout of each computer room and computer closets
  • Assist data center manager with installation, maintenance, monitoring, and managing all computer room equipment, including servers, networking, telecommunications, and SAN equipment
  • Assist data center manager with with physical rack layout, vendor coordination, cable management, power management, and environmental maintenance

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • 2 years of experience in a hardware depot technician role
  • Experience in virus detection and removal
  • Be familiar with deployment toolkits for imaging
  • Technical knowledge of laptop and desktop hardware including peripherals
  • Hands-on hardware troubleshooting experience
  • Technical knowledge of printers and scanners
  • Bachelor’s degree in technology or related field (preferred)
