Tangram is Hiring an EXPLORE Program and Employment Specialist Near INDIANAPOLIS, IN

Description

This unique position is perfect for someone looking to expand their knowledge and grow their skills in the disability world! This position is perfect for someone who is organized and likes variety in their week. This person will lead in EXPLORE programming on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 9am-4pm and Employment Specialist duties on days and times outside of their EXPLORE hours based on personal scheduling needs and client needs. Training will be provided for both positions.

EXPLORE Program Specialists will work with a team to lead various goal-based interventions in a group format, both in center and in the community to help clients increase their independence in our new program called EXPLORE. This program is for individuals with disabilities ages 16 and up. EXPLORE stands for EXperience, Passion, Lean, Opportunities, Recreate and Employment. Programming will take place from 9am-4pm Tuesday through Thursday. The morning hours will focus on fitness, education, recreation and social based skills while the afternoon will focus on vocational and community-based skills volunteering on job sites. Programming will primarily be group focused with individualized goals for each client.

An Employment Specialist helps clients develop skills needed to secure and maintain competitive employment by conducting job development activities that are directed towards clients’ vocational goals. This position provides training and support to job candidates before and after they have secured employment following the Vocational Rehabilitation steps of Discovery through Milestones. This individual develops and maintains professional relationships with local businesses/ potential employers and focuses on meeting the identified needs of these potential employers. 

Duties/ Responsibilities Specific to EXPLORE Program Specialist:

· Create and implement programming for client groups based on individualized goals.

· Demonstrate ability to lead and support programming for various size groups with differing medical, social and emotional needs. 

· Communicate effectively with peers and supervisors. 

· Asses, support and lead clients during all job and volunteer placements to ensure a safe environment for both client and businesses alike. 

· Demonstrate professionalism both in center and out in the community while supporting clients. 

· Complete daily electronic documentation in a professional, accurate and timely manner that meets all agency standards while maintaining confidentiality. 

· Maintain client confidentiality at all times. 

· Make modifications and adaptations in real time to support goals and needs within scope of practice. 

· Follow guidance from senior level staff to enhance professional development. 

· Engage with clients and be aware of their location at all times. 

· Demonstrates interpersonal skills to manage crisis situations. 

· Demonstrate understanding of teen/ young adult development. 

· Other Duties as assigned.

Duties/ Responsibilities Specific to Employment Specialist: 

· Follow stages of Vocational Rehabilitation process with client to meet their current needs.

· Explore clients likes, dislikes, talents and struggles during the discovery process through various techniques and experiences directed by the Employment Specialist. 

· Review the Individualized Plan for Employment and assessments as developed by the vocational rehab client support team to assure familiarity with the needs, skills and goals of the vocational rehab client. 

· Provide 1:1 training on skills needed in the workplace such as interpersonal skills including role modeling, demonstration shadowing and emotional/ social support. 

· Maintain business/ employer relationships focused on meeting the identified needs of the employer. 

· Support client with identifying natural supports on the job site including relationships with co-workers. 

· Assure needs of the employer are met during the training phase, focusing on tangible outputs in terms of productivity and efficiency, as well as reasonable accommodations if needed to achieve the employers need. 

· Monitor and evaluate the ongoing progress of the placement regarding goals, skill building and job objectives according to a given schedule. 

· Visit identified worksites to observe and preform jobs to learn responsibilities for a given position prior to placement of candidate. 

· Maintain ongoing community relationships with the placement, employer and team to assure ongoing success, working with the employer to address client performance issues. 

· Meet with clients team as needed including Tangram staff and clients job counselor.

· Complete all documentation need as a Vocational Rehab Job Specialist in a timely and accurate manner. 

· Accurately record milage associated with driving to and from clients job sites. 

Requirements

Education and Experience: 

· Must be at least 21 years of age 

· At least 2 years’ experience working with adolescents and adults with developmental, intellectual, and physical disabilities. 

· Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four- year college or university with major course work in Human Services, Education, Vocational Counseling, Recreational Therapy or another field closely related. 

· In lieu of a Bachelors’ Degree, an associate degree or some college with significant experience may be considered. 

· Must have a valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record, meet agency drivers' insurance requirements, reliable vehicle, and up to date automobile insurance. 

Physical Responsibilities: 

· Varied workstations and environments based on client situations.

· Ability to lift up to 35 pounds. 

· Prolonged periods of standing or sitting.
