Title:Meter Operations Engineer I-II (Varies)Company: Tampa Electric CompanyState and City: Florida- Tampa
Shift: 8 Hr. X 5 Days

POSITION CONCEPT

Provide technical support for the engineering, design, planning, operation, maintenance, and documentation of all revenue metering equipment. Also provide technical support to TECO meter technicians and IBEW personnel.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide technical support and solutions to TECO internal and external customers on all issues concerning revenue metering and sub-metering.
  • Provide technical support to meter technicians as needed with field mitigation of meter operational and communication issues.
  • Provide technical support to TECO service area service engineers and distribution design technicians with AMI meter related issues, including meter data retrieval and analysis.
  • Work with the Principal Engineer to ensure existing and planned revenue metering systems comply with the Florida Public Service Commission rules and regulations through:

a. Random sample testing and evaluation
b. Periodic testing and evaluation
c. Acceptance testing of new metering equipment
d. Obsolete meter elimination

  • Perform regression testing on all new firmware and configuration versions for Advanced Meter Infrastructure (AMI) meters.
  • Support the company's renewable energy programs by reviewing drawings and work requests to ensure compliance with applicable Tampa Electric Company Retail Tariffs and Standard Electric System Requirements (SESR).
  • Work with the Principal Engineer to ensure compliance with North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) and Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) standards as they relate to metering equipment by:
    1. Ensuring evidence is up to date
    2. Updating audit related documentation as needed
  • Maintain documentation records for the bucket truck testing performed at the meter shop.
  • Manage the RMA process between TECO and Itron regarding warranty repair/replacement of faulty AMI meters.

RELATIONSHIPS

Key Internal: All TECOservice area technical staff; Regulatory, Customer Service, Billing, Energy Management, Renewables and Revenue Protection Departments.

Key External:Customers, Contractors, Vendors, Southeastern Electric Exchange, Other Electric Utilities, Florida Public Service Commission.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited college.

Licenses/Certifications

Required:None

Preferred:Passing the Fundamentals of Engineering exam.

Required:

Engineer - I:

Performs routine engineering work requiring application of standardtechniques, procedures and criteria in carrying out a sequence of relatedengineering tasks; receives close supervision on new aspects of non-routine

assignments; using prescribed methods, performs specific and limited portionsof a broader assignment of an experienced engineer; may have minorresponsibility for training, orientation or assigning of work to otheremployees; may schedule/coordinate projects with supervision and review;prepare engineering analyses, write specifications and reports as directed.

Required:

Engineer - II:

Qualifications for this level shall include sustained demonstrated soundknowledge in a functional work area with an expected or higher degree ofperformance. Candidate should have demonstrated knowledge of policies andwork procedures within the Company. Independently evaluates, selects andapplies standard engineering techniques, procedures and criteria usingjudgment in making minor adaptations and modifications; may havesignificant role in training, orientation, assigning work or supervising otheremployees; may receive assistance and/or guidance on unusual problems; mayhave limited authority for performing work on an individual basis with quasisupervisory responsibility over other employees as may be assigned; mayprepare engineering analyses, specifications and reports on an independentbasis.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA)

Required:Microsoft Office; strong communication skills; data gathering and research skills; Excel spreadsheet manipulation.

Preferred:Metering standards and specifications knowledge.
