Primary purpose:

Tallgrass seeks a Director of Geoscience Compliance to direct its overall compliance efforts related to CO2 sequestration projects and manage a multidisciplinary group of internal subsurface professionals and external consultants to ensure appropriate and accurate completion, approval and implementation of Class VI Underground Injection Control permitting programs.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Plan, coordinate and integrate efforts to complete and obtain Class VI UIC permit approval across several sequestration projects at various stages of development.
  • Ensure implementation of regulatory and compliance requirements are met and reported to relevant authorities.
  • Ensure all CO2 Sequestration projects are developed and operable withing proposed and committed regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain adequate level of subject matter level expertise and familiarity with regulator CO2 sequestration project compliance including EPA, CARB, WDEQ, LA DNR, ND DMR, etc.
  • Leadership and oversight over the annual budgeting process for operating and capital expenditures associated with compliance and regulatory requirements, ensuring Company budget forecasting and accrual processes are followed.
  • Special projects and feasibility, scoping as required.
  • Develop and align the corresponding compliance organization and staff accordingly, balancing external and internal resources as needed.
  • Work closely with Director Development and Execution Carbon Sequestration, and Seismic Wells Delivery Manager to facilitate project delivery of CO2 projects on time and within budget.
  • Work across the Tallgrass organization with Commercial, Business Development, Legal, Operations, Human Resources and Information Technology to ensure all key stakeholders and disciplines are incorporated in and informed of CO2 compliance efforts and projects.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key personnel at regulatory bodies.
  • Organize and plan a working strategy for regulatory body interactions, modifying as needed for regulatory environment and legislative outcomes.
  • Demonstrate and enforce the highest professional integrity, ethics, and safety discipline.
  • Foster a positive open work environment, systems approaches and disciplined execution of all assigned tasks.
  • Manage people leaders and assist with development and staffing of their teams, serving as a mentor to less experienced team members.
  • Maintain a high regard for personal safety, for the safety of company assets and employees, and the general public.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum requirements:

Education:

* Master's degree from an accredited institution in environmental science, geology, engineering, or a related discipline.

Experience/Specific Knowledge:

  • A minimum of fifteen (15) years' experience in geoscience or subsurface engineering field.
  • Experience managing personnel in support of UIC permit applications.
  • Subject matter level expertise pertaining to UIC permit requirements in the US, specifically focused on CO2 sequestration.
  • Must be able to understand the needs of the business unit(s) for which development work is being performed.
  • Proficiency level in MS Office applications that may include but are not limited to Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook

Certifications, Licenses & Registrations:

  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers (for travel).

  • Review design and documentation to ensure compliance.
  • Significantly contribute to meeting business objectives by generating and implementing project ideas.

Working Conditions:

  • Travel is required and is anticipated 25% of the time during project milestones.
  • Required to carry a cell phone and be available to respond during working and non-working hours.
  • The successful candidate will be required to clear a drug screen and a complete background check, including credit report for certain positions, after an offer has been extended and prior to being employed.
  • Working after hours, nights, weekends, holidays as needed.
