Talcott Financial Group is Hiring a Senior Accountant Near Hartford, CT

Overview: The Senior Accountant will work closely with other members of the accounting and reporting teams in the Controller’s Organization. The Controller Organization’s Accounting team is responsible for the preparation and reporting of financial information for a variety of internal and external customers. The role provides a macro-overview of Talcott’s insurance operations, reinsurance arrangements and corporate business functions and the opportunity to interact with individuals throughout the enterprise. The Controller’s Accounting team members are continuously challenged to identify process improvements and empowered to implement solutions. Responsibilities: Assume an active role in the US GAAP and Statutory monthly/quarterly/annual financial reporting process for Talcott Resolution Support the Company's external financial reporting for both US GAAP and Statutory accounting methodsAssist in analyzing and documenting earnings and other key financial variancesStreamline processes and procedures to continually improve efficiency and controlsSupport the business in its strategic initiativesPerform required internal controls and maintain documentation of the controls as required under SOXSupport ad-hoc financial reporting/analysis projects Opportunities: Develops technical understanding of insurance business from a unique vantage point Provides opportunity to improve skills and expertise in finance discipline Requires interaction with finance and business contacts outside of immediate department Creates visibility to senior finance management through work assignments Offers broad business and/or product exposure Tests the ability to communicate, present ideas, and influence others Challenges analytical skills through critical thinking, problem solving, and solution findingDemonstrates leadership capabilities through team effort, initiative, customer service, and integrityOpportunities for internal training on a variety of topics High exposure to special projects Qualifications:Undergraduate degree in accounting required, CPA or MBA is a plus2-5 years of accounting/finance experience preferably in the financial services industry or auditingExperience in accounting, financial reporting, audit, financial statement preparation & analysisStrong organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills with proven attention to details and the ability to manage competing priorities with guidance in a fast-paced environmentStrong aptitude to understand and work with large data setsAbility to understand management reporting needs and to creatively produce useful reports to meet those needsStrong communication skills, both verbal and written Individual must possess a high level of initiative, be a self-starter, self-directed, highly motivated and must be able to work in a team and build relationships Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, PeopleSoft/Oracle/other general ledger applications preferred
