Communications Manager

Tacoma Arts Live is a 501(c)(3) non-profit 43 year-old arts organization that is committed to producing the highest quality programs and to the belief that our ability to contribute to excellence in the arts depends on building a community whose members come from diverse cultures, backgrounds, and life experiences. About Us

 Tacoma Arts Live is recognized for leadership in presenting world-class performing artists, and providing one of the largest performing arts education programs in Washington State - serving 50,000 students, teachers, and families annually in the South Puget Sound. 

We are located in downtown Tacoma in the historic Tacoma Armory. Programs at Tacoma Arts Live include musicals, theater, comedy, dance, opera, concerts, film, lectures, family shows and other live events performed by touring and community organizations.

Position: Communications Manager

The Communications Manager comprehensively supports the communication efforts of Tacoma Arts Live and partners with staff across the organization for storytelling, content creation, and awareness building. The role ensures a consistent and unified message that aligns with the organization’s branding, relationship-building focus, and mission-based strategy. The position is responsible for internal and external communications, social media management, content creation, promotion and messaging, and public and media relations.

The job requires the employee to be onsite in Tacoma as required for meetings and in-person events, with flexibility to perform other responsibilities either remotely or in office.

The Communications Manager is a member of Tacoma Arts Live’s Advancement Team. 

Salary is $55,000 - $62,000 DOE

Responsibilities: 

  • Work in partnership as a member of the Advancement team to refine and strategize brand, key messages, and other external communications for the organization.
  • Act as steward for brand tone and style throughout organization communications.
  • Develop content for Tacoma Arts Live platforms including website, e-newsletters, press releases, programs, and other communication materials.
  • Manage internal communications sharing through collaborative process across teams, ensuring the development of key messages for activities and events of Tacoma Arts Live. 
  • Provide editing support and communication style guide recommendations for all teams. 
  • Support development of video content for use in online storytelling related to brand, organization, events, and activities.
  • Manage social platform communications, including the development of strategy, goals, scheduling, and storytelling opportunities across the organization and internal teams. 
  • Monitor and report on analytics, metrics, and achievements.
  • Manage media outreach to include media and press contacts, including distribution of press releases and press kits and delivery of pitches.
  • Manage media needs for events, including media alerts, VIP coverage, etc.
  • Coordinate and supervise event photographers and videographers.
  • Partner with Patron Services group to update community calendars with the events and activities of the organization.
  • Support and maintain partner relationships, coordinate partner promotions including promotional materials distribution, e-news trades, partner recognition, cross-event promotion, etc. 
  • Coordinate distribution of marketing promotional materials as needed

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Three years professional communication experience, with demonstrated strength in content creation
  • Experience managing social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, Link Tree, and TikTok.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strategic and critical thinking skills, able to self-manage, make progress towards goals
  • Strong relationships skills, focus on building and maintaining relationships internally and externally
  • Ability to structure and manage workflow and priorities
  • Collaborative, well-organized, detail-oriented, and collaborative 
  • Strong project management skills, specifically prioritization, multiple project oversight, and communications
  • Knowledge and appreciation for the performing arts a plus.

Awareness and familiarity with the following systems a plus:

  • Audience View database
  • Constant Contact and e-news editing programs
  • WordPress editing platform familiarity preferred
  • Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Office Suite
