Job Overview:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and customer-focused Optical Assistant to join our team. As an Optical Assistant, you will assist optometrists and opticians in providing exceptional eye care services to our patients. Your role will involve a combination of administrative tasks, patient support, and retail sales in an optical setting.
Duties:
- Greet and check-in patients, ensuring a positive and welcoming experience
- Collect patient information and update medical records using electronic system
- Assist with preliminary eye exams, including but not limited to, measuring visual acuity and intraocular pressure
- Prepare examination rooms and equipment for optometrists
- Educate patients on proper contact lens insertion, removal, and care techniques
- Dispense eyeglasses and contact lenses, ensuring accurate fitting and prescription adherence
- Perform basic repairs and adjustments on eyeglasses
- Maintain inventory of optical supplies and assist with ordering as needed
- Provide exceptional customer service by addressing patient inquiries and concerns
- Process insurance claims and verify coverage using medical coding systems
- Adhere to HIPAA regulations to maintain patient confidentiality
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional certification or coursework in optics or medical terminology is a plus
- Previous experience in an optical or medical setting preferred
- Knowledge of optical physiology and basic eye anatomy is beneficial
- Familiarity with retail sales techniques is an asset
- Proficiency in using electronic medical record systems, such as Epic, is desirable
Skills:
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in performing tasks
- Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with patients and team members
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a high level of professionalism
- Basic understanding of medical coding systems for insurance claims processing
