Job Description
The Whitman School at Syracuse University is seeking a temporary Recruitment Specialist through Fall 2024 to assist with undergraduate recruitment activities. This position is often the first point of contact for many prospective students and their families when they visit campus or contact the Whitman School and will be responsible for greeting guests, answering phone and email inquiries, entering information into a database, and demonstrating excellent customer service to all visitors. The specialist will meet with prospective students and their families on campus, lead daily small group information sessions, assist with recruitment communications, coordinate events, manage the Whitman Visitors Center day-to-day operations, work closely with student employees, and help coordinate the volunteer student ambassador group.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Experience in higher education such as admissions or student affairs preferred.
Job Specific Qualifications
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, presentation, event planning, administration and organizational skills required.
  • Must be comfortable with public speaking in front up groups of up to 50 people.
  • Ability to establish and maintain strong, positive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
  • Experience with calendar systems and event coordination.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends, as needed.
  • Experience or educational background related to the promotion of equity, diversity, accessibility, and inclusion.
Responsibilities
  • Assist with all on campus and online recruitment activities of the Whitman School to help secure an academically strong and diverse pool of undergraduate applicants. This includes event planning, meeting with prospective students and their families, giving presentations to small and large groups of visitors, and communication with prospective students.
  • Plan recruitment and yield initiatives that promote equity, diversity, accessibility, and inclusion. Use Slate and other tools to run reports and analyze data to assist with recruitment efforts and communications.
  • Manage the Whitman Visitors Center including answering phones, emails, stocking supplies, managing the calendar system, and greeting visitors on campus. Collaborate with faculty, staff, students, and alumni to address student questions and provide timely information.
  • Oversee student employees who are responsible for giving building tours, preparing visitor information packets, and assisting with other recruitment activities.
  • Review the recruitment budget and reconcile monthly expense reports. Manage office inventory, oversee expense payments. Coordinate projects and activities with other SU units such as the SU Admissions Office.
  • Coordinate activities for the Whitman Leadership Living Learning Community including event planning, budgeting, logistics.
  • Other duties as assigned in support of the Whitman Undergraduate Program
