Job Description
The Grounds Manager will develop and coordinate plans for the efficient use of crew members engaged in outdoor landscaping efforts including tree trimming, mowing, edging, hedge control, bed design and installation, snow removal and genera trash clean-up. Determine/confirm the deployment of equipment and materials will ensure timely and efficient job accomplishment. Perform worksite inspections to ensure quality work, on-time completion of activities staying with budget. React to four seasons weather condition impacting both grass and turf athletic/recreational fields and tracks. This role will require interaction with faculty, staff and students and the ability to ensure a safe working environment.
Qualifications
  • Pesticide license in turf and ornamentals is required
  • Must a working knowledge of irrigation systems
  • Experience as landscape specialist, landscape contractor, golf course superintendent or relevant position.
  • Certified Applicator with herbicide application experience.
  • Must be familiar with Green Method and procedures
Job Specific Qualifications
  • A valid state driver’s license.
  • Professional verbal and written communication skills
  • Interpret and enforce the bargaining unit contract, University’s policies and individual department policies.
  • Technical expertise in several essential building trades
  • Advanced technical and computer systems experience preferred
Responsibilities
  • Develop and coordinate plans for the efficient use of crew members engaged in outdoor landscaping efforts including tree trimming, mowing, edging, hedge control, bed design and installation, snow removal and general trash clean-up.
  • Maintain work schedules allowing for day-to-day adjustments in crew schedules to meet changing work priorities.
  • Oversee three supervisors and 53 bargaining unit staff.
  • Maintain work schedules allowing for day-to-day adjustments in crew schedules to meet changing work priorities.
  • Train and mentor crew personnel.
  • Manage staff by communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, and appraising job coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; developing, coordinating, and enforcing systems, policies, procedures, and productivity standards.
  • Utilize the Maximo work order management system to determine/confirm the deployment of equipment and materials will ensure timely and efficient job accomplishment.
  • Identify, source, and order various small engine and grounds keeping equipment parts and supplies.
  • Maintain labor and cost records and requisitions materials, supplies and equipment as results required.
  • Conduct routine, frequent meetings with staff regarding grounds, sport fields operations, and special events.
  • Coordinate with Support System, Operations System and Control Managers to provide and obtain required services.
  • Coordinate the interface with Campus Planning, Design and Construction for planning and projects.
  • Create and review performance reports for key performance indicators.
  • Lead continuous improvement effort including identification of improvement opportunities and lead creative effort to implement improvement.
  • Maintain quality service by enforcing quality and customer service standards; analyzing and resolving quality and customer service problems; identifying trends; recommending system improvements.
