Job Description
The Esports Technical Operations Specialist provides support and consultation to assure the smooth and efficient operation of technology in the Student Experience recreation and competitive Esports facilities. The Esports Technical Specialist will provide technical support and troubleshooting for gamers in the competitive gaming world and will administer and maintain systems related to Esports labs. They are responsible for resolving issues related to hardware, software, internet connectivity, and other technical aspects of gaming using an in-depth knowledge of divisional systems and gaming technologies.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree and 2-3 years of experience with gaming or Esports-related technology.
  • Application support and administration along with experience in IT systems and projects is recommended.
Job Specific Qualifications
  • Having a strong technical understanding is essential for an Esports Technical Operations Specialist. The ability to troubleshoot problems and identify possible solutions is essential for success in the role. Important skills include knowing to fix hardware and software issues, as well as understand network infrastructure and gaming platforms. The Esports Technical Operations Specialist should also have demonstrated proficiency in the support of audio-visual technologies used within gaming spaces. Experience with broadcast technology would be a plus.
  • An Esports Technical Operations Specialist must have excellent communication and customer service skills and stive to provide a high level of support to players and staff. The ability to remain calm under pressure and think quickly is also important, as is the ability to explain technical topics in simple terms. With these skills, an Esports Technical Specialist can provide the technical support necessary to ensure a successful gaming experience for all players.
Responsibilities
  • Provide primary technical support, assistance and troubleshooting for all technology used in the Student Experience Division’s Esports’ facilities including computer hardware, gaming technology, software, and audio-visual technology. Due to the nature of gaming activities and student needs, Specialist must be available on-call, nights, weekends as needed to resolve issues particularly during competitions.
  • Administer, maintain and ensure the performance of applications and systems used in the Esports labs.
  • Ensure smooth operation during events by providing planning and support for the use of event-related technology.
  • Conduct training on, and develop and maintain documentation for, the use of Esports specific technology.
  • Act as the primary technical liaison for the Esports facilities. Interface with divisional and central IT resources as well as vendors to ensure smooth and efficient operation of Esports facilities.
