Job Description
The Director of Operations is responsible for managing all aspects of activities at SUDC, Syracuse University’s Academic Center in Washington DC and assuring effective day-to-day functioning of the facility. Duties include, but not limited to:
  • Managing budget
  • Working closely with SUDC academic directors to meet program and student needs
  • Coordinating student housing to include sourcing options,
  • Working with Real Estate/University Counsel on leases, and working with students to access housing
  • Scheduling of classroom and conference spaces used by Syracuse University schools, colleges and departments
  • Coordinating facility support for all programs and events
  • Addressing all routine and emergency maintenance, addressing safety issues in coordination with building management and the Washington DC agencies and external vendors
  • assisting with internal SU marketing of the facility
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Five (5 ) plus years of progressively responsible administrative experience.
Job Specific Qualifications
  • Strong organizational and communications skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a team environment with multiple constituencies is critical.
  • Strong computer skills with demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office required.
  • Experience with working with audio, visual and video-conferencing technology strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with Washington DC desirable.
Responsibilities
  • Direct, manage and facilitate the use of the SUDC Center. Includes, but not limited to: working closely with academic directors and schools/colleges to assess and address classroom and technology needs, schedule all uses of the center’s facilities, work with Advancement and External Affairs and Admissions to plan for events and facilitate programmatic facility needs, manage SUDC budget, work with HR to support remote HR functions, coordinate student housing including sourcing options, work with Real Estate on leases and work with students to access housing.
  • Oversee implementation and operation of technology and access systems at the
    center. Includes all building access systems, security systems and classroom A/V, as well as security surveillance systems. Work with the ITS Learning Environments team to ensure all classrooms are updated and functioning. Troubleshoot A/V and technology problems with virtual support from campus. Support all forms of video-conferencing for online and hybrid classes including, but not limited to, Teams, Zoom and Facetime
  • Collaborate with campus departments, building management and external vendors on upkeep, maintenance and safety. Oversee routine, scheduled and emergency maintenance of SUDC Center facilities. Serve as on-call emergency contact.
    Oversee construction projects and tech upgrades with ITS, Learning Environments and Campus Planning Design and Construction.
  • Promote use of SUDC Center to schools and colleges as well as other campus departments such as Admissions, AEA, Project Advance and College of Professional Studies with the goal of maximizing/optimizing use of the facility.
  • Collaborate with Director of Remote Student Support on ideas for and logistics of student-focused social and Wellness events.
