Sylvester Broome Empowerment Village is Hiring a Summer Camp Keyboard/Piano Teacher Near Flint, MI

Covering 10 different areas, we offer many different programs that youth can choose from. Job Summary:
We are seeking an enthusiastic and skilled keyboard/piano teacher to join our summer camp team. The keyboard/piano teacher will be responsible for providing engaging and educational lessons to students of various ages and skill levels, fostering their musical abilities in a supportive and fun camp environment.

Duties:

  • Plan and deliver daily keyboard/piano lessons for students, covering a range of topics including basic techniques, music theory, sight-reading, and repertoire.
  • Develop lesson plans tailored to the individual needs and interests of students, ensuring a well-rounded musical education.
  • Provide personalized instruction and feedback to students to support their progress and development.
  • Maintain and organize keyboards/pianos and related equipment, ensuring they are in good working condition and readily available for lessons.
  • Lead group activities and ensemble rehearsals to give students opportunities to collaborate and perform together.
  • Incorporate music games, improvisation exercises, and other interactive activities to keep lessons engaging and enjoyable.
  • Create a supportive and inclusive learning environment that encourages students to explore their musical creativity and express themselves through the keyboard/piano.
  • Collaborate with other camp staff to integrate keyboard/piano lessons into overall camp programming and special events.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and fellow staff members regarding lesson schedules, student progress, and upcoming performances.
  • Prepare students for end-of-session recitals or showcases to celebrate their achievements and showcase their musical talents.
  • Serve as a positive role model for students, demonstrating professionalism, passion for music, and a commitment to teaching excellence.
  • Assist with setup, cleanup, and organization of music spaces and equipment as needed.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience teaching keyboard/piano lessons to children and/or teens.
  • Proficiency in playing the keyboard/piano across various styles (e.g., classical, jazz, pop).
  • Strong understanding of music theory concepts relevant to keyboard/piano playing.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and build rapport with students of all ages and backgrounds.
  • Patience, creativity, and enthusiasm for working with young musicians in a camp setting.
  • Reliable and organized with excellent time management skills.
  • Prior experience working in a summer camp or similar recreational setting preferred.
  • Ability to pass a background check and provide references upon request.
