Sweetwater County is Hiring a Code Enforcement Specialist Near Green River, WY

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF POSITION: This position is responsible for Fire Code, Nuisance, and Zoning compliance and enforcement. Investigates possible land use, nuisance and fire code violations and implements appropriate enforcement action when violations are found. The position will also act as the County Fire Warden, coordinating County wide fire suppression between the various local, district, state and federal fire agencies.
Fire Code Enforcement Duties:
  • Inspects and enforces the International Fire Code and all local, state, and federal fire regulations.
  • Inspects buildings and structures to identify potential fire hazards.
  • Interprets and responds to questions relating to all applicable fire codes and regulations for citizens, contractors, builders, and developers as requested.
  • Conducts On-site inspections.
  • Performs fire code review as part of subdivision application process.
  • Checks for accumulations of combustible material, electrical wiring problems, and inadequate or non-functional fire exits.
  • Ensures buildings are in accordance with appropriate laws, codes, ordinances, regulations, and standards.
  • Inspects properties that store, handle, and use hazardous materials to ensure compliance with laws, codes, and regulations.
  • Conducts practice fire drills.
  • Determines causes of fire.
  • Presents and explains fire code requirements and fire prevention information to engineers and construction workers.
  • Collects and prepares evidence and present it in court.
  • Serves condemnation notices when fire code violations are not corrected.
  • Inspects fire alarm and sprinkler systems.
  • Reviews permit applications and conducts plan reviews on all commercial projects and on all residential additions/repairs for compliance with all applicable codes and regulations.
Zoning & Nuisance Enforcement Duties :
  • Prepares complaint reports; conducts inspections; prepares inspection reports; ensures corrective action; issues citations to code violators as required; develops code violation files and prepares written and verbal responses to property owners and community members.
  • Prepares clear and concise reports, correspondence and other written materials and maintains all related records pertaining to complaints, inspections, code violations, and required remedial action.
  • Meets with suspected code violators to explain permit processes and enforcement procedures.
  • Works with legal staff to prepare cases for enforcement action, dispute resolution or litigation.
  • Prepares correspondence, sketches, drawings, and related documents in response to requests for information, inquiries, clarifications, and documentation of findings related to inspections.
  • Investigates complaints pertaining to code violations and issues stop work orders.
  • Makes periodic inspections for hazardous or unlawful conditions; condemns unsafe buildings.
  • Conducts fire code enforcement inspections of day care centers, foster care homes, public and private schools, and commercial buildings.
  • Receives and/or reviews records, reports, and documents such as inspection records, building plans, architectural drawings, automatic fire extinguisher plans, and commercial building permits.
  • Refers to texts, manuals, and documentation such as the International Fire Code, local and state codes and regulations, NFPA Inspection Manual, plus various handbooks and maps.
  • Coordinates code enforcement actions with other County departments and other governmental agencies when necessary.
  • Assists Engineering and Land Use Departments for the enforcement of zoning and nuisance code violations.
Fire Warden Duties:
  • Facilitates and implements terms and conditions of Memorandum of Agreement for Fire Protection Services (MOAFPS).
  • Timely completes payment of reimbursements requests in accordance with the (MOAFPS).
  • Performs duties required of County Fire Warden under Wyoming Statutes, W.S.§ 35-9-106 -35-9-121.1, §35-9-30, §35-9-401-35-9-406, and elsewhere.
  • Prepares and monitors budget for contract fire services as provided for in the (MOAFPS).
  • Plans and coordinates equipment replacement as contemplated in the (MOAFPS).
