Surfside - Tenleytown Restaurant is Hiring a General Manager Near Washington, DC

Georgetown Events Hospitality Group is looking for a dynamic and professional General Manager to join our growing team. Our concepts full-service concepts include Surfside, Millie's, and Due South, and we also operate Jetties and The Bullpen. Restaurant General Manager responsibilities include, at the base level, maintaining the restaurant’s revenue, profitability and quality goals. You will ensure efficient restaurant operation as well as maintain high production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards.

To be successful in this role, you will need management skills and experience in both front and back of the house. We want you to know how to oversee the dining room, train effective servers, check-in with customers and balance seating capacity. Back of the house management experience is also essential as you will assist with hiring qualified cooks, set work schedules, oversee food prep and make sure we comply with health and safety regulations. We expect you to lead by example and uplift our staff during busy moments in our fast-paced environment. Ultimately, you will ensure our restaurant runs smoothly and customers have pleasant dining experiences.

General Manager Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate daily Front of the House restaurant operations
  • Deliver superior service and maximize customer satisfaction
  • Respond efficiently and accurately to customer complaints
  • Regularly review product quality and research new vendors
  • Organize and supervise shifts
  • Ensure staff operate within company policies
  • Appraise staff performance and provide feedback to improve productivity
  • Estimate future needs for goods, kitchen utensils and cleaning products
  • Ensure compliance with sanitation and safety regulations
  • Manage restaurant’s good image and suggest ways to improve it
  • Control operational costs and identify measures to cut waste
  • Create detailed reports on weekly, monthly and annual revenues and expenses
  • Promote the brand in the local community through word-of-mouth and restaurant events
  • Recommend ways to reach a broader audience (e.g. promotions and social media ads)
  • Train new and current employees on proper customer service practices
  • Implement policies and protocols that will maintain future restaurant operations

General Manager Requirements:

  • Proven work experience as a restaurant Manager, General Manager or similar role
  • Proven customer service experience as a manager
  • Extensive food and beverage (F&B) knowledge, with ability to remember and recall ingredients and dishes to inform customers and wait staff
  • Familiarity with restaurant management software, like Toast and Resy
  • Strong leadership, motivational and people skills
  • Acute financial management skills
