SURESTART is Hiring a Remote Mobile App Development with AI (Track II - Grades 9-12 or first-year undergraduate)

Want to learn how to develop mobile apps using AI this summer?

Are you a high school (grades 9 - 12) or first-year undergraduate student in the United States (including Puerto Rico) eager to build your mobile app development skills, especially using conversational AI, all while contributing to the future of mobile apps and AI?

Apply today to MIT FutureMakers!

This free, six-week online program, running this summer from July 1 through August 9, 2024 will bring together students from across the country to create a diverse group of learners, who are developing skills related to mobile app development and artificial intelligence, as well as power skills like communication, collaboration, and leadership. MIT students and computer science student mentors will run this virtual program through MIT RAISE.

Apply today! Start your journey to a successful educational and professional career transformed by AI technology with sustained support from a network of qualified mentors, engaged peers, and invested industry experts.

As a participant in the free FutureMakers summer program, you will learn foundational concepts related to building mobile apps, AI, Internet of Things, conversational AI, and get practice using your new-found coding skills to build mobile app solutions through:

  • A starting-from-scratch app development curriculum in MIT App Inventor guided by mentors trained in computer science and AI;
  • Teamwork on a final project for a make-a-thon competition (“Create-a-Thon”) and guided by your mentors and teammates;
  • Engaging webinars on career development skills, talks by AI industry professionals, and informal peer-networking;
  • Participating in a team-based entrepreneurial-style pitch competition to showcase your solutions.

The program is virtual, part-time and free but there is very limited space available, so apply today!

Requirements

Applicants must commit to attend all virtual (online) sessions with their mentors and teams, as well as do independent work. They should plan to spend about 3 to 4 hours each weekday during the program, as well as about 2 to 3 hours on two Saturdays leading up to the Create-a-thon for the last two weeks of the session while the team works on creating and presenting their app together for the final presentation on Friday, August 9, 2024.

Applicants may be asked to send their most recent school transcript and a short recommendation from their teacher(s).

Eligibility

MIT FutureMakers is committed to improving equity in educational and career opportunities for all students and their teachers. This program is free for all participants in high school (grades 9 - 12), as well as first-year undergraduates, yet only a very limited number of spaces are available for each track.

PLEASE NOTE: ONLY STUDENTS CURRENTLY STUDYING WITHIN THE UNITED STATES AND ITS TERRITORIES ARE ELIGIBLE TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS PROGRAM. HOWEVER, U.S. CITIZENSHIP IS NOT REQUIRED. YOU MUST PROVIDE A U.S. ADDRESS AND SCHOOL NAME ON THE APPLICATION THAT WILL BE USED FOR VERIFICATION PURPOSES ONLY. HOME-SCHOOLED STUDENTS ARE ALSO ENCOURAGED TO APPLY.
