SURESTAFF is Hiring an Electrical Panel Builder Near Schaumburg, IL

Title: Electrician/Panel Builder
Department: Electrical
Immediate Supervisor: Electrical Manager
Location: Schaumburg
Status: Non-Exempt, Hourly- 30-35/hr.
Position Purpose: The Electrician/Panel Builder is responsible for installing machine controls on custom automation equipment. This includes performing electrical panel wiring, field wiring, pneumatic plumbing, troubleshooting, and machine integration of industrial automated equipment.
Principle Accountabilities:
  • Read electrical and control schematics, and assemble and wire panels to specification for PLC controls, operator consoles, servo drives, motor controls, and/or pneumatic controls.
  • Read electrical and control schematics, and assemble and wire machines to specifications for Servo motors, AC motors, sensors, solenoid valves, guard switches, HMIs, E-stop, and safety circuits.
  • Inspect and test completed panels and machines using adequate inspection tools (AC/DC Multimeter).
  • Troubleshoot panels as needed to eliminate wiring errors and component malfunctions.
  • Work with the shop manager to schedule and prioritize tasks.
  • Follow the electrical schematic for build and wiring, including high and low-voltage systems, electrical junction boxes, line connections, stop buttons, push buttons, safety switches, outlets, electrical motors, variable frequency drives, PLCs, electrical sub-assemblies, and other electrical units.
  • Build and wire electrical enclosures and control panels.
  • Wire complete machines and systems.
  • Properly utilize a variety of hand tools for assembly and wiring.
  • Travel to customer locations for installation as required.
  • Maintain red line drawing mark-ups of changes required during fabrication.
  • Communicate red-line changes to Engineer or Team Leader for revision prior to completion.
  • Ensure assembly tasks are completed within budget and on time per schedule.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment, comply with all quality, safety, and work rules and regulations.
  • Understand and maintain both quality and quantity standards and expectations.
  • Communicate effectively with all project team members (e.g., Controls Engineer, Mechanical Engineer, Assemblers, and Project Managers).
  • Willingness to travel up to 20%.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Essential Skills and Experience:
  • Formal electrical training or demonstrate on-the-job experience in the electrical field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of previous panel building experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with NEC, UL, and/or CSA codes preferred.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical schematics and create redlines.
  • Ability to use hand tools.
  • Ability to use a computer to print wire labels.
  • Employees must provide their own basic set of hand tools.
  • Familiarity with machine shop equipment.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills in electrical control systems.
  • Proficient in metric systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be a self-starter, team player, work well with others, and have a positive attitude.
  • Must have the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Sharp, quick, dedicated, and innovative problem solver.
  • Must be organized, creative, results-oriented, focused, and attentive to detail.
  • Exhibits continuous improvement.
Physical Requirements:
  • This position requires standing, sitting, walking, bending, kneeling, and stooping for long lengths of time and frequent lifting and moving of objects up to 50lbs.

  • This job operates in an assembly shop floor environment. While performing the duties of this job, employees may be exposed to moving mechanical parts and loud environments.
