About Super 7 Girls

Super 7 Girls mission is simple - We help girls from under-resourced communities of color have superpowers (you read that right!). Now, when we talk about superpowers we don’t mean that in the metaphysical sense. When we discuss superpowers we are discussing a certain mindset. By helping girls build various skill sets that they need, they will feel emboldened, confident, smarter and…yep, you got it…superpowered. They will know that there is nothing that they are unable to conquer and that no challenge is too great.

So, you must be curious?!? How does one go about giving superpowers? We know that superpowers grow from consistent access to curriculum that focuses on education, health, financial literacy, policy, arts, leadership development, and global engagement and this consistent access helps the girls have a deep understanding of how their increased knowledge means a stronger ability to take on life’s challenges. We also know that their increased knowledge base disrupts the cycle of generational poverty and transforms the life outcomes and trajectories of the girls in our program. In essence, their superpowers enhance their overall well-being and helps them dream new dreams.

As you can see, we have big, hairy, audacious goals and we need bold Interns to act as role models of this superpower mindset – visionary, courageous, confident, determined and reflective. Our environment is fast paced and dynamic and volunteers work hard. With that said, what makes our culture amazing is that everyone is willing to help with any task because we are all working towards the goal of helping these girls be amazing superpowered individuals.

Essential Duties, Responsibilities & Requirements

Curriculum Review and Identification

  • We are constantly assessing our set curriculum to ensure that it is still meeting the learning goals of our students. Interns help with the process by reviewing curriculum to ensure that it is still meeting the needs of our students.
  • While reviewing curriculum interns help identify additional supplemental resources like handouts, financial models, field trips or diagrams that might be helpful with student learning.
  • Interns help identify new financial curriculum that will complement our current curriculum offerings.

Curriculum Planning

  • We want to make it as easy as possible for people to volunteer with our organization. Given this desire, we try to ensure that each lesson that needs to be taught has the following: a lesson plan for each unit, class handouts/notes and homework.
  • Interns would review each lesson to make sure that the aforementioned documents have been completed and if something is missing, interns work with our team to help complete the necessary documents. Interns also help with the standardization of those documents as well.
  • Interns also help our team map out the lessons that need to be taught over the course of school year to make sure the bulk of our curriculum can be effectively delivered.

Assessments

  • Interns will help us create pre and post assessments for different financial literacy curriculum we are using throughout the year.
  • Interns will help create exit tickets for each lesson being taught.

Organizational Assistance

  • Help update teacher and students binders that contain material necessary for weekly classes
  • Interns print and make copies for all the binders

  • At minimum, you will need 15-20 hours a week on site
  • Your commitment to this internship is critical to the girls involved in our program and our overall organizational goals

Compensation

  • This is an unpaid internship, but an awesome opportunity to leverage everything you've learned in school to change your community for the better!
  • If applicable, we are happy to help you receive credit for this internship with your college or internship.
