SUNY College of Optometry is Hiring a Program Director, Upstate Extension Center Near New York, NY

The State University of New York College of Optometry is establishing an extension site for its Doctor of Optometry Program in cooperation with the SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY.
The College seeks applicants for the position of Program Director at the College of Optometry, Upstate Extension Center. This is an administrative/clinical faculty position and rank will be determined by experience.
The successful candidate will have experience in clinical optometric education and must be qualified for the rank of associate clinical professor or higher. The Program Director will be based in Syracuse and will provide leadership in the development and oversight of the Upstate Extension Center and the operation of the Doctor of Optometry degree program at the center in coordination with the optometry degree program at the NYC campus. Some travel between sites is required. The Program Director reports to the Vice President and Dean for Academic Affairs, is a member of the Dean’s Council and the Clinical Education Council. Responsibilities include budgeting, inter- and intra-departmental communications, and developing and implementing Center-specific goals in line with the College’s strategic plan. Academic responsibilities may include some clinical and didactic teaching in the program.
The Program Director will provide strategic leadership to the faculty and optometry staff providing care within the Upstate Medical University’s Center for Vision Care. The Program Director is expected to oversee all optometry clinical faculty and students at the Center and work collaboratively with the Department of Ophthalmology faculty and staff at the Upstate Center for Vision Care to provide the latest evidence-based interprofessional care.
A Doctor of Optometry degree is required, and candidates must be licensed, or eligible for licensure, in New York State. The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and management experience in an academic health center setting is preferred. A competitive salary and benefits package, commensurate with experience, will be provided.

Minimum of $120,000. SUNY Optometry provides the above salary as a good faith estimate of the starting pay range which considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience and education.
