SUNY College of Optometry is Hiring a Certified Professional Coder (Onsite) Near New York, NY

The University Eye Center (UEC) of the State University of New York College of Optometry, an Article 28 Diagnostic and Treatment Center, is seeking a Certified Professional Coder.The successful candidate must be detail oriented and be able to multitask with excellent time management, problem solving and investigative skills. Understanding of managed care, Medicare, Medicaid, commercial and self-pay payer guidelines is required.
Reporting to the Director of Patient Financial Services, theCertified Professional Coder will be responsible for the review of pre and post charges in order to maximize reimbursement and coding compliance.
Responsibilities/Job Functions:
  • Review provider documentation for charge entry and correction of diagnostic and procedural coding for coding integrity and revenue optimization prior to claims submission. Assist with maintaining corrective measures and monitoring tools to ensure sustainability of changes.
  • Perform, reviews and monitors statistics and key performance indicators to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Reviews processes and conduct internal audits to improve the revenue cycle, claims production and coding integrity.
  • Educates providers on coding policies and procedures and provide feedback on coding accuracy.
  • Provide guidance and education related to billing to various staff levels.
  • Identify front-end operational improvements and assist with providing in-service.
Requirements:
  • Knowledge of Electronic Health Record (EHR) is required. Nextgen EPM and EHR is preferred.
  • Candidate should have a minimum of 3 years’ experience of revenue cycle management and medical coding in a healthcare environment, preferably in vision services.
  • Current certification in: Certified Coding Specialist Certification (CCS), Certified Coding Specialist- Physician-based (CCS-P) or Certified Professional Coder (CPC).
  • Extensive knowledge of reimbursement systems, federal/state/payer-specific regulations, and policies pertaining to documentation, coding and billing.
  • Completion of ICD10 coding training.
Annual salary including location pay allowance is $61,087 and there is also a generous benefit package. Fifteen days of annual leave to start and thirteen paid holidays per year.
