Sunset Farm Foods Inc is Hiring a General Manager Near Valdosta, GA

JOB TITLE: General Manager

1.0 JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

Direct, coordinate and supervise either directly or through Production Manager, Plant Maintenance Engineering Manager and Shipping & Receiving Manager, all plant operations and related service activities. Be accountable for plant costs, quality and quantity of production, methods and applications, plant maintenance and effective use of production hours, skills, machines, equipment, and facilities. Participate in planning production schedule, staffing requirements and plant and equipment preventative maintenance controls as related to production operations. Expedite scheduled production, investigate delays due to equipment downtime and initiate corrective action to assure economical production through efficient procedures. Coordinate programs as they relate to operations (e.g., plant methods and procedures, cost reduction, preventive maintenance, training, staffing, safety, housekeeping, etc.). Administer company rules, regulations, and policies.

2.0 REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

2.1 The General Manager reports directly to the President.

2.2 The following positions report directly to the Vice President & Plant Manager:

2.2.1 Production Manager

2.2.2 Shipping & Receiving Manager

2.2.3 Plant Maintenance Engineering Manager

2.2.4 QA Manager

2.2.5 Human Resources Manager

2.2.6 Safety Coordinator, Project Manager

2.2.7 Consultant and Documentation Liaison

2.3. In the absence or incapacity of the General Manager, their duties and responsibilities will be undertaken by the individuals outlined in Section 2.2.

3.0 REQUIREMENTS

3.1 EDUCATION

REQUIRED: Two Year associate degree in business administration or engineering.

PREFERRED: A four (4) year degree in Business or Engineering.

3.2 LICENSING/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION

REQUIRED: Valid driver’s license

PREFERRED: Same

3.3 EXPERIENCE

REQUIRED: Two (2) years of production scheduling in a meat processing environment. Three (3) years of management of a production department with plant equipment maintenance in a meat processing facility.

PREFERRED: Three (3) or more years of production scheduling within this industry, combined with three (3) or more years of profit and loss responsibility in a meat packing facility of similar products with plant and equipment maintenance responsibility.

3.4 SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES

This position requires the ability to orchestrate and coordinate the efforts of the diverse production and production service areas to complete the processing and packaging of meat products to fulfill customer orders within the specified time frames while maintaining the required level of quality in the product. The ability to plan and schedule workloads and the resources required to complete these products. Analytic abilities to review and refine methods, procedures, and workflows. The ability to implement new ideas and concepts with the work force and to identify and define training needs, develop training methods and cause to be conducted, the actual training. Ensure using a preventive maintenance program that the plant equipment and machinery have a minimum amount of downtime due to machinery and equipment break down.

3.5 PHYSICAL

3.5.1 BODY POSITIONS

This function requires prolonged periods of sitting to schedule, review reports and conduct meetings. Standing, stooping and bending to inspect products and equipment within the production facility and to note quality details.

3.5.2 BODY MOVEMENTS

The ability to operate mobile equipment, such as forklift, in emergency and/or training situations. The ability to move through congested production areas to inspect inventory stored in the refrigerated warehouse facility.

3.6 MENTAL

3.6.1 MATHEMATICS

Able to perform the necessary computations to schedule work through the production work departments for preset delivery deadlines. This would typically be consistent with a high school level of mathematics.

3.6.2 LANGUAGE

Able to communicate verbally and in writing with all levels of employees throughout the company to convey instructions, directions, communicate schedule dates with sales and provide reports to upper management.

4.0 WORKING CONDITIONS

Work conditions vary from the climate-controlled office to the production floor with its noise and refrigerated areas. The warehouse environment and outside staging areas which must be traversed in all weather conditions.

5.0 AUTHORITY

The General Manager is given the necessary authority to successfully accomplish the duties and responsibilities of the position, by the President. These include:

5.1 To hire, fire, promote, demote and discipline direct reports, ensuring that the President is also notified and consulted, prior to any action being permanently implemented.

5.2 To provide the development of the Production Budget.

5.3 To develop, recommend and implement operating procedures to enhance customer service, productivity, quality, and the profitable growth of the company.

5.4 To establish the limits of the activities of subordinates such that there is no undue involvement of the President in their daily routines.

5.5 Develop, maintain and modify methods for production scheduling and the requisite tools to support proper scheduling of production.

5.6 Taking any reasonable action necessary to carry out the responsibilities of management, so long as such action does not deviate from established company policies and is consistent with sound business judgment.

5.7 Ensure that a Preventative Maintenance Program is in use to provide the optimum use of machinery and equipment with a minimum of breakdowns in order to prevent machinery and equipment downtime.

6.0 RESPONSIBILITIES

The principal responsibilities of the General Manager consist of, but are not limited to:

6.1 To plan, schedule, supervise and direct production operations and related services.

6.2 To provide coordination, supervision, scheduling, and direction for the timely production of products ordered.

6.3 To achieve efficient and economical production with the production budget parameters.

6.4 To provide work assignments through, production scheduling, meetings, delegation, and direct assignment.

6.5 To schedule production in a manner which assures the attainment of ship dates and to implement corrective actions for off schedule conditions and/or timely communication of problems beyond your authority to resolve.

6.6 To ensure the coordination of material flow, in support of the production schedule through the Production Manager.

6.7 To provide leadership, motivation, training, guidance, and counsel to all production employees.

6.8 To establish the limits of the activities of subordinates such that there is no undue involvement of the President in their daily routines.

6.9 To provide the coordination of communications between Production, Sales, Purchasing, Administration, Plant Maintenance and Quality Control.

6.10 To ensure that shipping schedules are created and maintained to provide a minimum of a weekly view of scheduled activity.

6.11 To identify and develop subordinate personnel to a level which will allow the smooth flow of production in the absence of the President and General Manager.

6.12 To identify training and safety needs, assist in the development of programs to address these needs and to implement and maintain such programs.

6.13 Ensure that maintenance needs are identified, programs such as Preventive Maintenance and Operators Start Up Checks are developed, implemented, and complied with to minimize down time and repair time.

6.14 To provide Performance Evaluations for all Production personnel at least once per year, to train and develop subordinate Supervisory personnel to perform evaluations on their subordinates.

6.15 Provide follow-up and to hold accountable all subordinate employees for direct or indirect assignments and ensure their timely completion within the quality standards of the company.

6.16 To maintain the company standards for quality, volume requirements and scheduled customer commitments.

6.17 To maximize utilization of all resources, facilities, equipment, machines, materials, supplies and manpower.

7.0 DUTIES

The principal duties of the General Manager include, but are not limited to:

7.1 To provide Performance Evaluations on all direct reports on a minimum of an annual basis (every 30-90 days during probationary periods).

7.2 Direct production scheduling in a manner which ensures that customer commitments for ship dates are met and to make daily assignments to ensure the attainment of the schedule.

7.3 Review and approve timecards and work sheets.

7.4 Identification of training needs, communication of needs to the Ownership, participation in the development of Training Programs and the implementation and compliance with training schedules.

7.5 Ensuring that all safety and company policies and procedures are communicated, understood, and complied with on an ongoing basis.

7.6 Communication of company and department goals and objectives and the continual focus of all production personnel on their attainment.

7.7 To establish a stable, motivated, and effective work force, with an acceptable level of turnover through, training, hiring, motivation, delegation, regularly scheduled meetings, safety, departmental performance review, production status and general communications as required).

7.8 Attainment of production volume and quality standards daily.

7.9 The scheduling of manpower requirements to attain the production schedule.

7.10 The development of department goals and objectives that are consistent with the goals and objectives of the company.

7.11 Ensure that the Preventative Maintenance Program is in use to prevent the failure of machinery or equipment with would cause downtime.

8.0 MEASURES OF PERFORMANCE

The General Manager will be deemed to be performing at a satisfactory level when:

8.1 Ensure that Daily production scheduling is in place and is visible to the completion of all orders with no shortages in shipments, there is a backup person capable of scheduling and controlling production in their absence.

8.2 Production schedules are adhered to and communicated daily to the sales department and on time shipping is at its targeted rate.

8.3 Training and safety programs are implemented and complied with.

8.4 All subordinate personnel have current Performance Evaluations on file with the HR Manager and they have achieved a satisfactory level "or" have written action plans from their immediate superior, for improving their performance.

8.5 Organizational stability is achieved in the Production area and employee turnover is reduced to an acceptable level.

8.6 Budgeted goals are met or improved upon for the year.

8.7 The effective and efficient coordination of activities and assignments provides for minimizing the involvement of the President.

8.8 Inventory levels and turnover are at or better than budgeted.

8.9 The Preventative Maintenance Program is in effect, and we incur a minimum of downtime due to machine breakdowns.
