JOB DESCRIPTION

We are looking for Lead OB/GYN Medical Assistant to work with our OB/GYN providers and ensure our patients are receiving their best quality care. The following are some of the essential functions you would be responsible for:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Identifies patient service requirements by establishing rapport with the patient and others while being aware of age specific needs protocols. Exhibit knowledge of growth, development, and age-appropriate communication. Ability to assess, provide and interpret age specific data. Ability to involve family or significant other in decision-making related to plan care.
  • Interact with patients and employees in a respectful manner consistent with the mission and values of Sun Life
  • Promote teamwork within the facility to improve patient access and patient outcomes to increase the efficiency of the tram and the site as a whole.
  • Assists with orientation and training of new hires acting as preceptor.
  • Completes patient care requirements by performing tests and completing other tasks as assigned, i.e., set up rooms, place patient in room, takes patients vital signs, height, weight, pulse ox, oxygen levels, etc. and records them in the chart, prepares patient for examination by the OB/GYN Provider, assists with performing NSTs on patient, and assists the OB/GYN Provider with patients care and all procedures performed in office.
  • Assists OB/GYN Provider in examination of patients, and gives instructions to patients as directed by OB/GYN Provider
  • Cleans and prepares rooms between procedures and restock supplies.
  • Administers injections to include immunizations and fills out appropriate paperwork for recording purposes.
  • Maintains documentation of patient care services by completing patient and department records in accordance with established policies and procedures
  • Documents verbally and in writing procedures, medication, delivery of care, and pertinent information regarding care rendered to the patient. Routine and timely documentation of all core process work activities including, but not limited to, evidence-based chart reviews, patient calls and correspondence.
  • Educate patient on medications and directions for use; or changes made at the time of patient appointment. Call in prescription refills as directed by the provider. Support patients and providers in the medication refill process. Notify patients when prescription orders are ready, faxed or submitted to pharmacy. Complete prior authorizations for medications
  • Answers telephone calls and takes messages for the OB/GYN Provider and/or returns telephone calls to patients, documenting all patient interaction in the patient medical record.
  • Facilitates any patient reports and delivers them to the appropriate OB/GYN Provider. Provide an effective communication link between patient and medical staff, including relaying messages from providers, gathering information from patients for providers.
  • Contact patients to report lab test results when instructed to do so by OB/GYN Provider
  • Contact patient by phone or letter of any no show/missed appointments.
  • Processes referrals if required (those not processed by the referral department) medication refills and sets up appointments for patient for diagnostic procedures and/or with a specialist.
  • Acts as a liaison with the OB/GYN Providers, other doctors' offices and the hospital
  • Assist OB/GYN Provider with any hospital coordination needed.
  • Assures quality of care by maintaining clinic standards of care while adhering to requirements of other governing agencies
  • Protects patients and employees by complying with infection control policies and protocols, following medication administration, storage procedures and controlled substance regulations.
  • Maintain Universal precautions and follow all applicable SLFHC procedures regarding infection control and reducing healthcare acquired infections (HAIs). This included but not limited to, good handwashing and gloving practices.
  • Ensures operation of medical equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; reporting malfunctions, requesting repairs, maintaining equipment inventories, and evaluating new equipment and techniques
  • Maintains nursing supplies inventory by anticipating needed supplies. Keeps rooms stocked with adequate medical supplies, ensuring that all medical supplies items are within the expiree date.
  • Performs sterilization of instruments and surgical packs in a timely manner wash and dry instruments used, and prepares for sterilization as required.
  • Performs specimen collection and Performs laboratory CLIA Waived testing for which they have received training.
  • Reports communicable disease to County Health Department as needed.
  • Arranges for patient to receive home health visits, if necessary
  • Adheres to expectations of required/mandatory in-services and certifications.
  • Perform all required duties as outlined in the Medical Assistant Outlying Sites job description.
  • Ensure operation of medical equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; reporting malfunctions, requesting repairs, maintaining equipment inventories and evaluating new equipment and techniques
  • Complete assignments given by Practice Manager or Clinical Supervisor/RN
  • Refer any clinical issues to Clinical Supervisor/RN or other licensed staff and notify Practice Manager
  • Adhere to expectations of required/mandatory in-services and certifications.
  • Assist the Practice Manager or Clinical Supervisor/RN with nursing staff performances, competency, recruitment, retention and development.
  • Maintain established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
  • Collaborate with other departments and agencies regarding resources and services for improved patient care and staff development.
  • Cooperate with other personnel to achieve departmental objectives and maintain good employee relations, interdepartmental relations and infection control standards.
  • Promote excellence in internal and external customer services by maintaining consistent and timely communication regarding all facets of departmental activities with his/her co-workers at all levels of SLHFC.
  • Attend and participate in appropriate meetings and committees.
  • Produce all requested information by formatting, inputting, editing, retrieving, copying and transmitting text, data and graphics.
  • Assist the Practice Manager, Clinical Supervisor/RN or Team Leader by arranging for meetings and conferences.
  • Perform multifaceted general office support for Practice Manager or RN/Clinical Supervisor
  • Performing general clerical duties to include but not limited to: photocopying, faxing, mailing and filing.
  • Assist with Front Office and Laboratory as needed.
  • Filling in for staff shortages at all OB/GYN locations as needed

Qualifications


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Medical Assistant certification (CMA or RMA) required.
  • If not CMA or RMA, employee must achieve within 60-days of employment.
  • Preferred 2-5 years' experience as a Medical Assistant
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) required.

COMPENSATION

Salary: $18.50 - $22.50

***Compensation is dependent on the relevant year and months of experience***
