We have an exciting opportunity open for a Construction Technician based in Pueblo West, CO.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Construction Technician I (Laborer) lifts/carries materials and performs other duties involving the use of hand and power tools. Duties also include but are not limited to digging trenches or ditches, backfill and compact and level earth. Performs installation of natural gas facilities in accordance with Company O&M and local state and federal regulations.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform intensive physical construction labor duties as a part of a natural gas installation crew
  • Dig trenches up to 5 feet, backfill excavations, jackhammer asphalt/rock and compact and level earth to grade specifications using shovels, tampers and rakes 
  • Move pipe and associated tools and materials
  • Perform technical construction and repair on utility pipelines
  • Signal equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement and adjustment of machinery, equipment and materials
  • Listen, learn and communicate with Project Manager, Superintendent, Foreman or other General Laborers to complete tasks and overall job successfully.
  • Following good health and safety principles, practices and maintaining a business-like appearance including wearing company provided clothing is essential to providing the proper company image
  • Perform general clean up at job sites and observe and implement proper safety practices
  • Achieve Operations Qualification (OQ) certification to company standards; passing required written tests and field evaluations
  • Maintain OQ certifications (continuing education) to company standards 
  • Ensure that the district’s shop is maintained to the highest standard
  • Provide continuous care of district Company vehicles
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the District Manager or other Senior Technicians

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE

  • High School or GED preferred
  • Minimum 1 year in a construction-related field required
  • HVAC, plumbing, or utility experience preferred
  • Experience with natural gas construction welcomed

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

  • Strong demonstrated mechanical aptitude required
  • Effective interpersonal skills needed to ensure excellent customer service
  • Strong time management practices required to multi-task several projects
  • Good verbal and written communication skills required for dealing with internal departments, customers and vendors and completing required paperwork
  • Demonstrated work ethic
  • Desire to show initiative to pursue opportunities to support whatever is needed to ensure the successful achievement of the district office’s goals
  • Willingness to work with others to achieve departmental goals
  • Understanding of the importance of learning and practicing safety principles

Salary based on experience - $20.00 to $25.00 USD Hourly

The position is covered under the D.O.T. regulations and Summit Utilities Drug and Alcohol Policy and is, therefore, subject to all terms of the Policy, including the random selection for drug testing.
